finally got an incline jack fitted....the old nackered 12" jack failed, but 24" seems to be working well

Something not reet there, it looks like you have signal margin but it is in % so not easy to tell.
If you get the signal readings in dB you can assess the margins better.
An Octagon SF8008 or any E2 receiver suitably loaded will give you the signal levels in dB and pour Poop.

It could be the LNBF but you need another one to try as a comparison.
I got spare Tits over 'ere you can buy for huge wad.

Have you tried adjusting the feed/scalar distances to see if it makes any difference?
i just came across this video on youtube...
the guy describes exactly what i had on CBAND when using an LNB (tried 2) without the 5G filter i.e signal about 70 - then zero.

Here's a small video of my 2.2 looking at 70West digital with 5G interference. The marker is on 3734 H - 'Tv Verdes Mares Cariri' . There is no outboard 5G filter fitted and the lnb is a normal Cband lnb without internal 5G filtering.
You can see the 'swamping' damage to the signal shown on my meter and how the already weak C/N readings are being destroyed.
I'm just using the weak 70W signal as a demonstration but can be applied to any other weak satellite signals.

The problem i have with the 5g filter lnb is that due to the nature of the filtering I actually lose channels which I should be able to get. So bigger dish needed with a 5g filtering lnb really. When I use the non filtering lnb I get a lot more channels. They are just not watchable due to signal coming and going

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Installing the dish in a pit, and using the best screened cable should lessen the interference.

It may also be possible to construct a mesh fence around the dish, holes with a diameter of 5% of the smallest wavelength to be filtered out.

NB In setups where C is small, the maximum (theoretical) actuator stroke length for the setup is never more than 2B (when B<A), or 2A (when A<B ); so maximum twice the shortest triangle side length, as we called it earlier in this thread.
When C is greater, as in this case, the maximum (theoretical) actuator stroke length for the setup increases to 2B + C when (A = B+C), or even to A+B when (A > B+C).
Knowing the maximum possible stroke length for the actuator, could help designing the proportions of the triangle side lengths.

Due to a discussion elsewhere, I lookup up my posts about the actuator triangle in this forum-topic.

I discovered that I made an error, in the part of my above post, that I made bold.
- When A = B+C, the maximum (theoretical) stroke length is indeed 2B + C, which by the way equals (B+C)+B, which equals A + B.
- When A >> B+C, the maximum (theoretical) stroke length however would be only 2B.
- When A is just a little more than B+C, then the value would be between 2B and (2B + C).
- A setup with A < B+C would by the way not be useful, so I leave that situation out.

A greater C-value would make the possible theoretical range more than 180 degrees (thus reducing the risk of flipping over).
A greater A-value would shift the range of greatest power and greatest accuracy away from the fully retracted zone, more towards the center zone, thus also positively affecting the extended zone.

Sorry for the previous error!

Greetz,

well the bad news is, the interference is just as bad - swapped for 5g filter, the good news is im getting FS123 at 10db
havent seen that consistent for a LONG time
i just thought today, i wonder if its my local electricity substation causing the interference. about 20 metres away

yes, and getting same signal as me on that TP on my 1.8m - well done mate
both our 1.8m's have been repaired now. lol
get a coke bottle on the end of that LNB and try and peak signal to 10.5db and your laughing.
i notice the FS1, FS2, FS3 TP is weaker, and disappears "at night", and comes back...whereas the ESPN stays 24hours.
:)
i wish this was still the case, its now reverse for me! now getting Fox all the time, but ESPN only in the day. very odd indeed....dont think its anything to do the the FEC 3/4 - 5/6 thing either.

You know you are gonna end up with a CM 2.4m sometime down the line, now is as good a time as any o_O

There are periodic fluctuations of signal level over the course of a day quite often with C-Band frequencies.
It seems that ESPN on 40..5W is one of them.

How did you setup the positioner (v-box) for counting pulses?
For example, is due south at 000 count and 0.8W at 009 count or are you using some other notation?

Just guessing but if you have similar positions stored for E/W it might be getting confused.
If you have 40.0E and 40.5W stored what are their respective satellite numbers in the v-box?
Same question for 3.0E/3.0W, 5.0E/5.0W and 7.0E/7.0W and 31.5E/31.5W

You could always try the dish on a Jaeger 1224.
They are easy to setup, linear counting across the arc and wider arc range than a polar mount.

Or change the v-box for an RC2000 if you can source one at sensible wad to see if that improves things?
RC2000 on its way!!! Cant wait to have a play with it.
I hope its easy to wire up. I will be using it for the 1.8m east/west and up/down
(btw the issue i originally mentioned was all down to the bolt\nut coming loose at end of actuator arm which clamps to polar mount. Solved by some oversized washers)

I also have an RC2000 here, only the 50 memory positions are not enough for me and it also has no Diseqc connection for receiver control.
