Different Enigma2 'distributions' will not matter for image quality, most use the same drivers provided by the manufacturer, but the quality of the hardware will matter. Multiboot is mostly useless in real life and only useful at start and if you don't know what enigma2 flavor you want. An advanded Linux STB will mostly be up and running most of the time, you need it for live streaming, access recordings, timers, EPG, you can do all that remotely (LAN or WAN) What will mostly differ is graphical interface and what it will have by default. A couple examples that I can give you based on my experience: - OpenPli is very fast and lightweight and let the user decide if he needs to add (plugins) more features or not. The problem is that when you start installing plugins you can break the system easily, in the past I had a lot of problems with this (frequent freezes/crashes after installing plugins that actually add very important features. (Auto timers, background (continuous timeshift, EMPlayer...)) Then I switched to OpenATV - OpenATV comes with many of those features already integrated in the default image, for me I only needed a few extra plugins, and the crashes/freezes I had were fixed. It also support a lot of boxes. So, I personally recommend OpenATV, but will depend on the STB if you are going to have problems or not. I recommend you don't choose cheap hardware, you will probably regret it later. I also highly recommend multi tuner (satellite) capable receiver. If you are not familiar with Linux receivers, it will require some learing to squeeze everything out of them, there's a lot they can do, but for basic usage I think it's pretty easy to set up, then you will learn everyday.
