I'd really like to get some new clamps for my 10 year old gibby, but I wouldn't know where to look to get some.
Sorry don't know how to source them

Post a picture from underneath, somebody here is bound to know where.

From the similar corrosion on the motor I guess you are close to the sea (Peterlee/Seaham)

I'll measure them ASAP. Tomorrow I am going to dismantle the dish and motor and then hopefully soak them in white vinegar to get the rust off then in oil. I did this 4 years ago. As a stop-gap, I have a TD78 which I am going to put on 13 east to RX Stars TV. Should be big enough for that and then I can get things sorted to get the biggun back up and treat it like a new install.

Actually I am in Ferryhill, which is about 500m above sea level. Our nearest seaside town is Seaton carew and Hartlepool.

Post a picture (with measurements) of the clamps you need. Why not have them made of INOX?

HI Everyone...hope you're all doing great!

I plan to move my motorised system on to my shed, but I really don't relish trying to hold a big Gibertini beast at ANY height. I'm sure someone on here will give me good advice (as per the norm) to what 1m dish I can get that will be less heavy and less prone to strong winds.

As much as I love my 1m Gibby, parts are now starting to get covered by rust and decay. Over to you guys!!!

:-respekt:-respekt:-respekt
laminas 1.2m - very light indeed!

Could you also post a picture of all brackets which those clamps are holding? I have a set of U-clamps, but they are not 105mm wide but 97mm. You could get them for a price of shipping... if they fit your antenna. IMG_20240726_172807.jpg

That sounds fantastic!!! I will have to measure the gap where the clamp goes it MAY do the job. I'll get back to you ASAP on that one...and thank you. I'll keep my fingers crossed!!!!

Sadly they will not fit. If I were to get anything smaller they would not go through the slots in the sides of the dish bracket. Thank you anyway. Looks like I am stuck!!!

Have you tried sourcing the parts you need through a marine hardware store?

Although one problem with using stainless steel nut's and bolts is the fact that in some cases the nuts and bolts will gall up and seize together, then you have big problems, you should use some anti-seize compound on all stainless hardware to prevent this.

I use a product call "Evapo-Rust" you just put the part in a plastic pan with a cover and cover it up with the Evapo-Rust for a few days, the rust should be gone, you should wire brush the big stuff off first.

You can also use this stuff called "Corroseal" it converts the rust to magnetite then seals it up.

Also you may just be dealing with surface rust, the part may still be useful, if treated with the products above you may get a few more years out of it.

You are right! When they stuck together, it is an only way to use angle-grinder with cut-off disc. I like to use brass nuts on SS bolts, they never seize together.

If you are so desperate finding those U-clamps, I could make a pair for you out of INOX. PM if interested.
Great concept.
That, of course, is not needed to use in all joints. I do not think the brass nuts are needed in case of brackets for satellite antenna.

I think using a good rust remover may be the road to go down. What I am going to do is when I finally install the Gibby is to smear silicone grease on nuts bolts etc so that water runs off.
