@verwegsateliet:
Unfortunately i cannot tell you as well if 201 or even Eutelsat 7 West A is possible at all in Namibia. There are threads in two boards (rdi English section "Africa" and nairaland) that deal with Sat DX. Especially latter is full of them. Maybe there is anybody nearby you that has tested or even achieved something. So here are the links which you can go through:
_http://www.nairaland.com/712408/free-air-satellite-tv-general/160 (Every xxx pages a new thread is beeing opened, so this is the latest one)

There was also a german speaking DXer on dxtv board posting that had reception on some 13E and 19.2E frequencies on his self made 5m dish:
_http://forum.dxtv.de/wbb/thread.php?threadid=19414
Maybe you could contact him for more info.

By the way, is there any sat board that mostly deals with DX from Southern Africa ? The only one i have found so far is _http://sasat.forumup.co.za/ and there are very few people posting, not really on regular basis and not that detailed like here or in other european boards. Since i am interested a lot in the reception conditions at your location i would like to know more but not in this thread since this would be too OT.

Best regards from Stuttgart to Africa. :)

You have no chance whatsoever with the European or Nordic beams. The sub Saharan Africa beam is the best you can hope for.

have so been able to nab Eutalsat 7 west in Strand Cape Province using a 2.7 meter prime focus dish and fuji Stargold lnb signal strength is very weak

and i do not get all the transponders with sound crackling very much,I am busy with a 2.4 meter off set dish and Inverto ultra black lnb to see if signal strength and quality will not improve.for more advice and help on southern african satellite i would recommend you register on Africasat What is viewable,or NairaLand Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv Allso very Helpfull if you can get into contact with Satellite Guru Kungu at above forums for advice.you can follow some of the test he has done _http://www.nairaland.com/kungu/posts/3

thx this is what i was waiting for!Which beams 2 one mena and the other 1 NWA frequencies and any faint picture?Tried nairland but not the person you was speaking just the normal threads like nilesat. Read about the fuji stargold where did you get it from i only can get elsat higly priced and if the old ones i have is not very good quality the new one's would be not much better. For a few rands more i will use the invacom quad for rejection and the twin and a inverto for my 1.8m pfocus. So if you can barely get it on a mesh dish that is suppose not to be good for ku band then it is possible to get (better chance)it here at my side with the 3.2m two piece 90%+ quality still did some repair work(maybe more but 90% is good guess, probably a 2.8m ore more ,or the same depending if the little bump still on the face side the outer edges where the rim is not perfect) where do u get 2.4m offset looking for invacom quad and twin primefocus lnb can u help also maybe want to by a 1.5 offset for telstar excetra or so as my 1.8m petal old white (used before for intel 7 is bad) trying to get telstar 12 with it i'm over the border they say anything on satbeams 1.2m and up will try but at moment it looks like it is compared to an 90cm+ but think the C/ku lnb has a role in it as it is what i heared only for strong signals wondered even if i don't get soon and pf lnb to try the elsat lnb but tht would waste some money can u get in contact with me maybe we could help each other out?

An intresting finding is when I tried installing a setup for someone was that when you are near the equator, you can get many footprints which are way out of the assigned transmission area.

This is due to at least 2 factors.

One factor is the "side-lobes"
A good example of this is the reception of the UK beam of Astra in Nigeria.

Another finding is that, the equtorial location is almost the "highest point of planet earth".
So many of the rules are somehow broken or twisted.

So my advice is, even if the books say that you cannot get a particular satellite or beam, try it.
You may suprise yourself.

Which channels could you get?

This was more than 15 years ago.
If memory seves me right, the channels where incrypted sky channels.
The system was a 10 feet motorized dish.

The strongest signal came from Intelsat at 27 East.
This satellite should be below horizon for that location (Near Mount kilimanjaro), but the high location made the reception possible.

You mean the times when BSkyB was transmitting from Astra 1A-D, right ? Those had quite some sidelobes instead of Astra 2A/B. At least i haven't read of any.

Another suprise for you.
Astra 2a b 28.2e has good sidelobes and they are receiving it in Bahrain using 1.8 meter dishes.
The strongest signal is 12403v from the 2B North

Here is a link for some screen shots:

Thats pretty impressive.

Wonder who will be the extreme fringe winners when the new Astra 2's come into service.

Oh yes, i've completely forgotten this. Think it was you that posted it here some months ago. It would be nice to see much more out of footprint reception from the Saudi peninsula or the Arab speaking countries. Since i don't want to become more OT, just one question to you:

Which arab boards are recommended besides of the from you mentioned for DX reports with photos ?
I really should learn Arabic.

As new generation of satellites come up, the manufacture of the dish reflecting/transmitting the signal from the satellite will (unfortunately) improve.
So it is likely that we will get less signal spill-over due to sidelobes.
A classical example of this is the latest eutelsat at 16 East.
The signals are more compact and powerful on the beams assigned to each reagion.

In addition to the one I have mentioned, here are few Arab boards that touch on the satellite DXing.

I am sure that there are more.
If I come across any dedicated ones, I shall pass on the information.

Telstar 12 i get on a 90cm dish using a elsat lnb trick to nabbing Telstar is to use dmc transponders which you can get via lyngsat, allso from your region you will be able to get w4/7 at 36 degrees east if you looking for some movies try c band arabsat at 26 degrees east especially eritv good for their nightly movie,The inverto lnb you can get from Spacetv they have branches in Johannesburg and Cape Town.Amos 5 at 17 degrees is also promising with new transponders opening up then their is eutalsat 10e for MGM channel that is fta,c band atlantic bird 3 at 5 degrees east is in the footprint for easy nabbing.you can pm me for futher info. with a teflon plate inserted you can get arabsat 5c at 30 east.
Currently africasat what is viewable is offline they moving to new servers, but most of the contributors to the forum has been posting on Nairaland.
The fuji Stargold is not available in South Africa and i received it from my Good friend Kungu which also contributes on this forum.According to advice on africasat from Kungu you offset dish has better receiving capabilities than a prime focus dish so i am using a 2.4 meter old fibre glass dish that i bought and converting it to a offset dish still trying to find a way to calculate the focal point of the dish as it is just a matter of reposition the arms.currently my project is at a stand still as it has been raining every weekend for the last 4 weeks.the invacom quad is a good lnb as i tested it successfully on astra 4a at 4.8 degrees receiving all the transponder on a 36 cm dish, which satellite installers say is not obtainable and no other lnb i used could nab astra 4a at astra 4.8 degrees on a 36 cm dish

Hello solly,
I have only mentioned what was reported from reception of the channels in Bahrain (as shown by the images in the link).
I am trying to get a 2.8 m dish to see if I can copy the the success of our friends in Bahrain.
