That's me added an internal hard disk to the Octagon now. Screws and connection cables were supplied with the receiver as well as an external data cable for the 2 back usb ports. Recording is working. Still to try is to record a 4.2.2 channel and play with Nvidia Shield TV box. Got to find the feed first with the Dr HD blind search, then input the details into the Octagon and hope it has not disappeared before I hit the record button!

The satellite search screen really needs a signal indicator. I miss that badly. It also needs a transponder delete button. Is all very well downloading a ready made transponder list but when it covers the different footprints a satellite covers it means the satellite search has to check a lot of transponders with no signal slowing down the search process.

Using a couple of external satellite editors and sending the amended details back the receiver was unsuccessful and ended up with a non working channel list. Backing up your settings is soooo important! Editing Satellites.xml and then rebooting the receiver worked.

I'm learning, but patience, I am finding, is absolutely essential with this kind of receiver.
Right Andy, Spill, What make & model HDD did you put into your receiver mate? As many of the guys know having read my thread I'm on the hunt for a 2.5 inch HDD for putting in a new sat receiver, I was looking at the Mutant 4k but this Octagon has me interested also.

For blindscan linux satellite receivers simply are not an option.

Depends on the receivers, i have an AzboxME and captures well feeds 4:2:0/4:2:2 with very low symbol rate or highs.

It's an M4-CT126M4SSD2 . At 126gb it's not very big if you want to do a lot of recording. It was left over when I upgraded my computer C drive to a Samsung 250gb sd. I would never go back to a traditional mechanical drive after experiencing a solid state hard drive. They are so fast. They were very expensive when they first came out hence I had such a small main drive. Only essential programme and the system files were kept on the main drive. It was a bit tight. Doubling the capacity of the C drive to 250gb was just right.
Anyway, using an ssd on the Octagon works well with no delays and no mechanical bits to get warm inside the case. If I need more capacity I am satisfied a larger ssd will do the job well.

Es file explorer on Shield to locate video file and then launch with VLC video player. I also managed to use the same technique to view on my mobile phone.

.

Normally on the receivers with Enigma2, you can stream a channel to the PC and using videolang you can watch a channel in 4:2:2 live and more.
Videolang has no problems, it also worth MPC-HC
It is also not a problem to play the recording of a channel when it is still being recorded.
This trick also allows to play a UHD channel on the PC/Computer with 1Gbs network, minimum i5 and a good video card (clear monitor resolution)using a normal recertor HD like VU+DUO2 and others with 1Gbs network.
This "trick" allowed to use an SD channel receiver ((DVB-S ==> DB500S/DB7020Si) to watch broadcast channels in HD (2004-2008).
-------------

To the mobile phone according to power of the video card and always better by wifi network of house/internal (normal streaming or transcode)..........................................
Al telefono movil segun potencia de la tarjeta de video y siempre mejor por wifi red de casa/interna (streaming normal ó transcode).

It seems that blindscan is not a priority for the octagon developers, but it does not cost anything presses them...

Well very disappointing re the Blind Scan 1st mentioned here over 10 months ago but still not available receiver released in 2016

Maybe Octagon are saving this feature for it's next UHD release like they did with the HD receiver SX88 ?
