I think it's the same box: ANADOL ECO 4K

There are some similarities with ANADOL ECO 4K but the OCTAGON SF8008 E2 4K UHD is a combo receiver & has a Blind Scan the Anadol Eco 4K does not have either of these features the rear panel is the same on both receivers so probably out of the same factory.

Although this is not a Combo box, it may very well have Blind Scan, there is a OpenATV Image for it.
It might be worth checking their forums or I might even e-mail Anadol.

Just spoke to Anadol, in German.
Basically they said it doesn't have blindscan at the moment but may come later.

I wonder if the Octagon actually has it on release?

Well if it hasn't got blind scan on release I for one will not be buying it!

That Anadol box might have different tuner and demod than 8008. 8008 has same tuner and demod as 4008. On the german dxtv.de forum Octagon says 8008 has blind scan and there are pictures. Octagon says that 4008 and 8008 has different manufactures and driver engineers. The other driver engineer knows how to make a blind scan, the other does not (and has been trying a year and a half). Somebody on the forum asked after that, do we have to forget blind scan on 4008. Octagon says there is still hope on 4008.

The Blind Scan looks promising on the OCTAGON SF8008 E2 4K UHD,
With start frequency & stop frequency + polarisation selection & symbol rate selection :)

If the new SF8008 has options to scan a user defined frequency range and polarity band it is worthy of consideration.

Open ATV, have always had a user defined BS, so it looks promising for the 8008

All images have that nowadays surely? Just tried it on my Gigablue 4k running vix, and it don't work, just get the 'no transponders found'. Doing the 'full range' scan finds most transponders.

So if you are expecting it to rival other boxes blindscan, wait until it is confirmed, because I seriously doubt it.

I remember it worked on my Solo2 using vix, but missed more transponders than it found.

Good advice.

I have yet to find an E2 box that has a blind scan that can remotely compete with a Dr HD F15 or a Technomate TM-5402. A good test for this new Octagon jobbie would to compare its blind scan result with that from a TBS card such as a 6903 or 6983 where the blind scans are done on a like for like basis (possibly excluding 16APSK and 32APSK detection from the TBS card).

Just my humble guess but I think the TBS card would kick the sh*t out of the Octagon .

Yes Dave I think all E2 images that have working blindscan have parameter control.
I'm not expecting it to be all and end all of blindscan, my other boxes take care of that perfectly.
I have experienced the Open ATV blind scan on the Azboz ME in the past, it was OK certainly the best of all the images I tried. A wait and see I think...

Guys this is a very GENERIC blindscan function screen, based on the blindscan plugin, modified to be integrated into the OpenATV system. It utilizes external binaries on some blindscan-capable tuners, provided these are present in the firmware either directly from the tuner manufacturers, either from the receiver manufacturers and in that case they are closed sourced and encrypted to work on that receiver only!
Even though the scan results, especially with Silicon tuners are quite satisfactory, this approach is based on incomplete coding. Proper blindscan is a function that has to be built in the Scan Setup screens as a search type. For Silicon tuners only DMM has this implemented correctly and of course they keep this coding as a well kept precious secret.

Honestly, all manufacturers that use Silicon Labs tuners are to blame here. They are totally responsible for not activating blindscan on their boxes. In Octagon's case it's even more blatantly apparent that they use the Blindscan feature to promote their new receiver's sales, although SF4008 is more than capable of hardware blindscanning!

What is supposed to be so special about DMM blindscan?
Are Scan setup screens are python files in Open ATV images for DMM boxes? There is a blindscan binary in usr/bin, and a blindscan plugin for a user interface. This is the same setup other enigma2 receivers have. No one that has DMM receivers here in the States has reported a better or worse blindscan when using DMM receivers.

I'm curious after reading the above.
I get nothing when trying blind scan on my TM Nano M3 with Open Vix. Can I assume I never will?

DMM blindscan reports all found frequencies first, whether the results are better or worse I can't confirm, since I don't own a Dreambox.
