As per the title, an old mobile I owned has got screen damage. I need to move everything over to another - identical - mobile .

The last time I tried, on different mobile, I could not save the historic texts that were stored.

Of course I now have a couple of social media contacts on WhatsApp and other and would like to retain these if possible.

SIM card is mine on the old and the replacement is locked to the same provider, so is there a foolproof way to get this done without taking it to a shop (some 12 miles away) ?

Thanks in advance.

PS The SmartSwitch from Samsung may be the issue

Android Requirements: Android 4.3 or higher is required for general transfers. To transfer encrypted data, you must have Android 7.0 or higher.

These are A300 series mobiles from around 2015.

If you set back up for your old phone, when you start setting up your new phone it will ask you, once you sign onto Google, whether you want to copy your old phone to your new one. Banking apps will need setting up again, but most apps and message will copy over..

Have you considered Samsung Smart Switch? It's not working?

As the phones are identical you could just swap the screens.

Haha! Ya' old phart. Did you consider searching for an older, compatible version? Like here....or other sites.

Pay attention!

That was my first thought, though the original mobile is getting on for eight years old so everything inside is getting on a bit.

The mobile does have Android 7 firmware, it was the A300F that looks to be lacking (5.0.2) when I first started searching for a fix/transfer.

Anyhow is a ten year old mobile classed as out of date these days ?

Damn, File transfer via USB is disabled and I have no screen to enable it.

Does this Smart Switch allow data transfer to a higher specification mobile, in case I decide to evolve ?

It could be complicated or not. Is your phone equipped with a micro or usb-c charging port?
There are adapters (I have one) that let you plug in a usb-c cable into the phone. The adapter has a couple of normal USB ports.
It has a memory card slot. And an HDMI port. Plus a port to power it and charge the phone from.
So. On a backup and restore on a bad screen phone from a customer. HDMI was immediate. Got the phone screen right away on my pc monitor.
Then a USB keyboard. It was found and worked. And finally a USB mouse. Full phone control.
But. It needs a USB-C port to work.

Samrt Switch, Kies. Both work to backup/restore. There are a lot of things that do not backup. So manually exporting your contacts, messages, phone pictures to memory card takes time. And is a good idea. A 1-1 backup should not be assumed. It never is on the phones I repair.

Old phone to new? Maybe, maybe not. Pictures, music. Perhaps. But still you need to check. If the versions of contacts, messaging is different. The software will let you know. But still. There are third party apps that let you create backups export to or import from a backup file.

Data recovery is expensive. Because even the experienced aren't always given an easy ride doing it. And it takes tools, software, skill, and past lessons learned. Of course a new screen is always an option. Not an easy task either.

USB-C on a 2016 mobile ?
No, standard micro USB so the next stage is to find a screen from somewhere (I have replaced previously but since the mobile is in the last stages of life I wouldn't want to spend money on a one time repair unless vital).

Well I wish you good luck in whatever decision you decide.
An adapter like shown is similar to the one I have. For a broken screen job to transfer data it sure beats the whole process of a screen swap for a phone that will literally be trashed afterwards.
And you might even find that it's very useful after the fact.
Either way. Good luck.
