Here’s a long shot.

I had a satellite system before sky came along. It would scan the available satellites, which included (I think) Eutelsat, Eurosat etc.

One of the advertorials was for an Arithmetic ‘system’. This infomercial ran for about 15 minutes or so, & showed even small children doing mental arithmetic at an alarming rate.

It included a couple of systems to get you interested, which really did show you how to do some mental arithmetic.

I didn’t think much about it at the time, though I did learn the couple of samples, which I still use when needed.

Does anyone out there remember this advert ?
Does anyone remember what the system was called ?
Did anyone buy the system ?
Does anyone know if it still available, or where I might get an old copy/version ?

Thank you for reading this,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Many thanks CH:

Yep - it is a bit too modern,,,, but very very similar to the item I'm looking for - apart from mine was for arithmetic.

I can’t be the only person that saw it,,,, or can I ?

,,, talking of old satellite (analogue) kits,,,, are there any analogue satellites still in use (for the UK) ? I still have my Drake Earth Station 250, which is in better nick than my newer stuff !?

I’ve not used satellite since Sky started, so am a little more than behind the times !

Is it worth going for Multi sat kits any more ?

Hi Topper,

As I say, I haven't touched Satellite since Sky (or whatever it was called then) came along,,,, and started charging us.
Currently I use Freeview TV & am a 'general' viewer.

I think I had satellite because it was the latest gadget. I thought it was just the next step in TV viewing.
(I used to retail Decoders - in fact, I still have some - somewhere !?)

As to floating my boat,,,,,, I don't think I have a specific genre,,,,,, in fact, I seem to have quite a large repertoire ?! Apart from Sport, I can watch most things, if there’s time.

Cheers

I guess that the easiest starter system would be a budget DVBs receiver, say a Skybox F3 (a few of our members have this model), 80/90cm dish with perhaps with a 6 degree monobloc LNB for Astra 19.2 and Hotbird 13 East, this would provide you with hundreds of free to air channels in German, Italian, French, Arabic, Polish, Farsi etc.

An 80/90cm DiSEqC motorised dish won't cost you a fortune and opens up your options for viewing.

The last European analogue signals were turned off at the end of April 2012 - the remaining channels on 19E

Thanks for the update.

Are Analogue sat's used anywhere in the World now ? It would be a shame to dump the Earth Station if I could sell it somewhere else.

Nothing in Europe certainly - the very last analogue channel in our part of the skies (MNet transmitting in C-band to South Africa on 62E) went in early September.

Dunno about the rest of the world, I cant see anything listed on King of Sat using PAL SECAM or NTSC

Unless you need it to move a motor its just junk now.
