Hi all,

The OpenAtv has an awful char entry system where a number represents a cycle through the alphabet. Much the same as writing an SMS used to be.

How do I send a backspace to remove a char?

Screenshot enclosed.

When the cursor moves, you type whatever you need and it overwrites the letter that the cursor is over. But yes, it's annoying.

Unfortunately this did not happen.
Typing over the character moves the cursor to the place after the current location. If inbetween chars, then it inserts inbetween. It does not overwrite.

This is how it behaves on OpenAtv 6.4. Or my installation is broken. ( a bit like its Multistream reception:) )

Thank-you.

So it's the Next and Prev buttons at the bottom of the remote, and not the < > buttons in the middle.

I notice that your problem is in the satellite settings. I don't see another problem. I don't know what kind of system you are using? fixed or motorized. In general, you have to set the settings in each satellite you want to monitor. If it is motorized, I recommend using the USALS option. Another problem I notice is you have a settings list. The original image in Edison is usually Atv. You have the option to upgrade everything via their panel. Also a settings list. I do not recommend you to experiment with other images if you do not have sufficient knowledge of how to do it, because it can quickly lead to you will block the receiver with the wrong operation and then it will be necessary to lift the receiver with a recovery image, and for such operation you need to have some practice. It is not easy to kill Edison and they work very well.
I recommend that you study the basics of working with E2 and carefully read the instructions on how and what to do with Edison.

Hi,

I do appreciate your concern.
The Linux part is fine. I've been a Unix sys admin since 1989, and a Ljnux admin since it was first released, and I have bricked and flashed OpenWrt on many routers, and installed many images since . E2 won't harm me. What I am allergic to is a GUI of any sort - These obsure what is happening, the error messages are often unhelpful, and these can be an unnecessary layer of abstraction. Also, these are slow and I lack patience :-) Glad that Openatv does not need a mouse. What can done with a gui, can be done quicker in a Terminal

Back to satellites:

My set-up is basic:

4 x LNB with 4/1 switch.

LNB1 5w
LNB2 13e
LNB3 19.2e
LNB4 28.2e

When I first installed the Edision it brought in all the RAI multistream from 5W. I was happily watching RAI Movies (11179V 0x3ea), but only 5W was found . Then I did a factory reset and multistream never came back, but I did get the rest of the LNBs. Scanning a specific TP doesn't give a signal at all. It's zero.

...and carefully read the instructions on how and what to do with Edison.

There are no instructions into the box of Edision 4K.
The last time I searched the forum of OpenATV how to flash from USB stick, there were old texts that were no longer relevant.
So, I had to make my own tutoral.
OpenATV is based on OpenPli but these guys in Germany seem to have their own strange logic. In fact, there is no real logic in their way of doing the flashing. The explanations (in English) on the right of the screen are incomprehensible.

I just tried to update the packages, and I agree that the transaction into English is incomprehensible. Time to put OPENVix on this.

I never know if they are are asking a question, stating a fact, or seeking confirmation.

e.g after an update with presumably opkg in the background, it presented this message - See screenshot. Does this mean it successfully finished the update and it's safe to reboot, or did I interrupt the update and it might be unwise to reboot.

No idea :-)

After each warm-up, it is logical to restart the receiver. That's how it is on the E2, if you download a new plugin, settings, you always have to restart Enigma.

"Warm up" ?
Do you mean put it on top of a radiator?

Although you missed my point, you did help make it.

I still do not know if the packages were updated successfully.

I pressed Yes anyway and rebooted.

Oh did you !
The next step is to type the IP address of Edision into your browser, like this:

192.168.xxx.xxx

openwebif.png

.

france5.png

Now you can capture screenshots, stream BBC to your smartphone or computer, make bouquets etc.
Welcome to the magical world of Enigma 2 and Multistream.
