are these skyboxes any good? I have seen listings saying they have the 28.2 astra channels. The question I want to know is this, if other satellites such as hotbird and 19.2 also available on this box.

They are often sold with "gifts" - 12 month or so access to illegal card share servers. We cant recommend them for obvious reasons and if someone gets ripped off with the servers closing down a few days after they buy it (it happens!) well Im afraid they dont get much sympathy.

Yes, other than their ability to be used for untoward purposes, they are a decent cheap Multi- Satellite HD rx.

I have an Openbox that I use purely for receiving FTA channels. They are great for their price and I've found even outperforms more expensive receivers in some regard. I tried an Edision OS Mini Enigma2 box but found it's tuner and blind scan ability was a lot lot worse than my Openbox which managed to pull in and sustain very weak feeds on my 80cm dish.

I've also had a lot of failed recordings on an IceCrypt receiver whereas my Openbox would record flawlessly every single time. For example, earlier this year I tried recording the Eurovision Song Contest main feed which was a whopping 43 Mbps in bitrate - the Icecrypt simply refused to do it due to the high rates yet the Openbox did it with no complaints. No problems with the playback either.

I have an Openbox V8S which cost me £35.00.

OP, I can't link directly to where I got mine from out of respect to the forum sponsors but if you type the letter 'E' followed by the name of the box into a search engine, you should find it. (Note: The site in question sells the box and the box only) I'm telling you this purely because there are a lot of cloned models being sold elsewhere - even websites where you think might be selling legit models. I've actually put my box through the test to see if it was a clone model by upgrading firmware via USB (cloned boxes will brick themselves when trying to upgrade) and it was successful.

I have an Openbox V8s Combo - which gets satellite, terrestriaal UHF and IPTV/ I find it excellent value - a little more expensive than the basic satellite only model. You can happily set up favourite lists mixing channels from miltiple satellites (if you have multiple lnbs or motor) and terrestrial channels in the same list and record any of them to usb stick or HDD.

It was regarding the subscription receiver for 28.2 astra channels. I just saw some ebay listings of the Openbox v8s. though have also seen V9S models.

Thanks for the heads-up on the V9s.

Wasn't previously aware this had been released. Decent price at around £42.

Good afternoon to you 'scopus'.

I had a Skybox (Openbox) some 5 years ago and the SetEditHD 100 prog worked ok for myself but certainly many others found fault!

Anyway, will send you a P.M giving the download and delete links with the file/s I have.

Best wishes. respect-048.gif

I also have two of the v9s boxes, price wise they nearly work out the same as v8s as they have built in wifi so you don't have to purchase a usb wireless adapter. The plus side on the new boxes is that when you record a programme you can fast forward or totally come out and resume watching at a later time. also by doing a blind scan and then going into favourite edits it already has favourites at the bottom listed 1 - 10 so it is really easy as you scroll down the channels. just to press eg: 1= entertainment. 2= lifestyle etc etc. That way when press the favourite button on v9s you just get all the programmes you want in each category. The new model has 'in picture' as well, which doesn't freeze when you are searching to do decide which programme to watch.
