I have been looking at some dreambox dm800 hd se v2 as it seems to be compatable with the services I want.

So how can I tell if it's an original or a clone?

The price is usually a big give away. If you buy it from a reputable dealer you shouldn't have any issues with getting an original one. The main thing to look out for is the sim card inside them. Clones are usually Ferarri, SIM 2.20 and ESTAR Sims with the V2 boxes.

Red Apple have a lot of Dreamboxes going cheap, i should imagine they would be original.

Try to order it from Amazon Germany (no chance of a clone) they are usually cheaper than in the UK.
The reason is that as the DM receivers are of German design, it is only natural that they would sell it in massive quantity in Germany and Amazon gives a 2 year warranty and you can return your items and get full refund within a month. So keep all packing material at home for as long as you can.
