Ive got an SDR radio connected to a homebrew antenna cut for 1090mhz. The dongle is slotted into an old win7 netbook. My desktop machine runs VRS (Virtual Radar Server) a bit of freeware which produces the colured jaggies. You can use a pi though. Full instructions are in the files section on the 360R fb page once you are accepted. If you get stuck we will help you here as much as we can.

1090mhz antenna construction videos can be found on youtube - my current 8 section antenna took about half an hour to build.

What SDR radio do you have?

I only have the one dongle at the moment on 1090mhz I am toying with the possibility of another dongle on 978mhz

Just don’t know if it’s worth it around me.

Where @RustySpoons lives he might get the gliders up and about.

You can run 2 dongles on the same raspberry pi, all you need to do is modify the start up script, so that dump 1090 runs on dongle 1 or 2 your choice and vice versa.

It sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is.

I never bothered with offset calcs & my system works fine. If you want to go down that route then thats great - horses for courses :D

Yes I'm not that far from gliders.

I can pick up the radio from Bristol and Cardiff airports, I sometimes listen to it and RAF VOLMET.

The black noo elec dongle’s are tcxo ones.

I have my Pi with dump1090 running in the garage.

That connects to my TVH server it also runs virtual radar server.

I used to have a SDR Play, great device.
Getting a SunSDR2 Pro next hopefully :)
