Never subscribed to anything.
The only thing I'm a 'lifetime' member of is TMF
A forum set up when the Television Magazine finally stopped publishing..
I had a subscription to that from about 1969..till it closed its doors.
great mag ..shame market forces pushed it to close..

TEAC PowerMax 1300 if that's any help.

@Vipersan sadly, the underside is full of tracks - no possibility for drilling any holes.

Damned shame ..
All the more reason to raise the resistor above the pcb when re-fitting ..as the board when scorched and hot becomes a (albeit) high value resistor between those tracks..
The more the carbonisation the lower the resistance.

It's much more likely to be a 390 ohm resistor. 390 is a preferred value in the E12 (10%) range.

Shares the same board as the 1200, but the specific resistor is covered.

That's the one. Going to replace all electrolytics, except the big one, since I've done that a few years ago, the D313 transistor and the resistor. If that doesn't fix it then.. well, it's only £10 for all the components.

I don't suppose you have a schematic with reference voltages at various points?

Alex! I've looked in the box and found couple of 3W resistors one is 100 ohms and another one 120 ohms. If you put then in chain than you get 220 ohms. So, if you wish you can have them, if not they go back to the box forever. :-rofl2

Blimey, those look like something out of a 1970's Vega 101 record player :D

Thanks for the offer Rimant but only £2 delivered from eBay here.

Indeed - looks exactly the same as mine from the outside but there are differences in PCB (mine looks like the picture you posted originally).

It suggests the Guillemot Corporation are the OEM manufacturer for these (and others), Hercules is how they are better known by on the continent.

If you have over heating problems with a power resistor then try locating some of these hummers.(in the correct resistance value)

http://www.ohmite.com/cat/acl_hs1.pdf

And they are made in the UK, so they may be easy to find locally.

What I do is remove the problem resistor and solder in some stand off leads, be sure to bend them down below the circuit board (or above) and follow the trace a bit to allow for a solid attachment to the PCB, then solder the new resistor onto these leads, this also allows you to stand it up off the PCB allowing for air to flow.

They start at 5 watts so it may be overkill but it will never over heat again.

Transistor along with the resistor arrived today - replaced both and all is well! Didn't touch capacitors in the end as they looked in pretty good condition.

If you didn't burn your fingers when putting them in then great job.

If you did burn your fingers then wash then off and soak then in a tumbler full of scotch for about 5, then drink the scotch, you wont feel the burn on your fingers.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
BTW, was it that large vertically-mounted (presumably power) transistor shown in one of your posted images, and do you know what it does?

When I was a Marconi Apprentice, we were led to believe that Power Transistors are there to protect the Fuse ..... ;)
