If anyone made a recording have a look at the codec information in VLC to see what format it was.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

I think I've still got some of the concert left in the combo, will try later.

You don't need to read it.
Check image it doesn't have interlaced lines in it.
OK, I will let the experts... no doubts, you're working in this field and you've access to the technical details !
PS : just remember that the picture send from the sat is not the same format for the screen in theatres and Trafalgar Releasing never send in 1080p; !!

What resolution does the Combo report? If you have PotPlayer or MPC-HC they may give more information.

It is flagged as 1080i50.
Source is progressive scan 24 fps.
Quality is 24fps progressive scan if you analyze the image you'll see it.

Flagged as interlaced:

Source and image quality is progressive scan, no odd or even lines are visible, even if you do not deinterlace the image.

Example:
This is the same as you would listen to FM radio.

Radio may show stereo and the stereo LED will light up, flagged as stereo.
But the sound will be in mono as is the source.

Saying that you hear stereo because LED lights up is not correct as source is mono, both speakers play the same source (no difference) and you hear it mono. :D

If it was 24fps source it would either judder when transmitted as 1080i50, require frame rate conversion which degrades the overall picture or go through PAL 'speed up' where the video is sped up to prevent judder.

Without a recording to analyse I can't be sure but my best guess is it was 25fps transmitted as 1080i to maintain compatibility, this isn't a problem as the interlaced fields are stitched back together to recreate 25p video.

Encoder simply doesn't care what source is, i have tested this myself.

If encoder is set to 25 fps, 25th frame would be 1st frame of new second.
You don't need to downconvert anything.

Here is recorded concert:
1. When i look at the whole frame when they did the testing i get interlaced ( odd and even fields are visible ) image from a cold play concert that they have for a test before the main show:

2. If i seek ahead to the concert i get progressive scan image, no interlaced lines are visible ( odd or even ):

When 25p is sent as 1080i50 each of the 25 frames is split into two fields of odd and even lines - 25 frames are now 50 fields. You won't see the the interlaced comb effect as both fields are from the same original frame.

Yes and you get full progressive scan image without resolution degradation.
