Saorsat is to be discontinued in "early 2028" as the Eutelsat Ka-Sat 9A is due to be retired with no replacement in place for the orbital position. The quote below is from saorsat.ie while the CAI have also advised its Irish members, north & south, to no longer fit any new Saorsat installations.

Saorsat is closing in early 2028

Since 2012, Saorsat has provided coverage in areas where Saorview reception may be challenged. Services from RTÉ, TG4 and Oireachtas TV are currently available on Saorsat.

The satellite that is used to deliver the Saorsat service reaches end of life in 2028 and is not being replaced. There is no alternative satellite available, so it will be necessary to discontinue Saorsat in early 2028.

Services from RTÉ, TG4 and Oireachtas TV will continue to be available on other TV platforms (including Saorview, Sky, Virgin Media, eir TV, Vodafone TV) and are available via broadband through the RTÉ Player, the TG4 Player and the Oireachtas TV website.

You may be able to receive Saorview. To check if this is possible, please visit the Saorview Coverage Checker and enter your Eircode or address. You can also approach your local TV retailer or aerial installer for advice.

If you live in Northern Ireland, RTÉ and TG4 channels are available on Freeview, Sky and Virgin Media, and via broadband. You can check Freeview coverage at Freeview Channel Checker | Freeview.

For more information, please call 0818-21-22-21 or email info@saorview.ie.

Blimey is KaSat so close to end of life already? It seems no time since it was coming into service.

Just shows ip delivery is now far enough advanced to allow for decommissioning the Saorsat service
