I must have misunderstood, as I thought the longitude reference was relating to entering his location into the receiver...
As I said, I thought that is what he said/implied - but I could also be wrong!!

It is, 0.8 West is the satellite, his Longitude position is listed as:
Latitude: 50.8375°
Longitude: -0.2612°
which can only be entered to 1 decimal place, which means 0.3W should be entered, from what I understood.
I have never owned, or used, a fortec star receiver so I'm unsure of the software, and menu options.

Yes, I can only put 50.83 as latitude not the not the whole number. The same in the longitude 0.26 only.:(

Thank you for clearing that up, then you enter 0.26 W, into your Longitude settings..
2 decimal places is fine, even 1 decimal place is acceptable, all that happens is that your receiver works out the locations, of all the satellites, from your Latitude, and Longitude, map reference, once the dish is set up correctly.
So you set up your dish, motor, and LNB, all at 0. enter your Latitude, and Longitude, into your receiver, and tell it to send the motor to 0.8W.
You then physically align the dish, to Thor 0.8W, get the strongest signal possible, tighten everything up and 0, on your motor, should then be pointing at 0.26W.
Once done you can send it to your furthest East, then West, satellites, note the signal quality readings, and send it back to 0.8W for fine tuning, slightly adjusting the elevation options, to get the maximum signal possible, on all available satellites.

Good evening everyone

I just would like to thank you all for the valuable advices that you have given to me. I finally got Thor 08W, although the signal was about 67% and quality 53% I have managed to scan some channels.
However, when trying to find others satellites, Hispansat, Hotbird , there were channels that work and others not and not to mention Astra 19.2 where nothing a part of some channels from Sky encrypted, I don't know if is Freesat or Astra 2A.
Anyway, I know I'm near there. Now I have to stop for a break and when coming back I will definitely sort this out.
Happy new year to all and Merry Christmas!!!
Cheers:-applause:-stpats

Hello everyone, I am back.
I hope all had a great festive season and now getting back to sort my dish out.:-clap
As I said in the last post , I managed to get some satellites scanned but I feel that I am not 100% aligned to the true south ( maybe that's why I don't get the 19.2 East channels correctly as well as Hispansat 30w and so on)
However, I think I need to update the channels list in this receiver(Fortec Star Passion + which everyone seems to hate including me now:angry:)
Has anyone has a list for 19.2E, Thor and Hispansat for downloading and transfer direct to my receiver?
Many Thanks

Welcome back, but I can't help with receiver-specific sat channels lists for your receiver - and I suspect that, given the age of your receiver, it will be difficult to find anyone who can!

Frankly, I think you would have to build and install your own lists from sites like Lyngsat, Flysat, Kingofsat, and so on - and that will be VERY hard work. Certainly, I would NOT try to do what you are trying to do with a receiver that old!

Therefore, I must say, again, that you would almost certainly have more success (and fewer problems and less stress) with a much more modern receiver that has current manufacturer and forums support. Take a look around this (and other) forum, look for potentially suitable receivers, and ask questions on what to buy.

Hello Guys,

I'm trying to set up my motorised dish and got pretty much all channels working fine from Thor 0.8W but when I deleted and put manually new transponders in my receiver( as some Jeallen1 mentioned ) the signal and quality was about 78% and 75% so when I saved it the free channels that I could see before, now I cannot even though , still the same Q/S but saying no video nor audio.
What did go wrong?
Many thanks

Having owned that receiver as well as it's non "+" predecessor, let me give some advice, the very last point you made there about saving the details but it displays nothing like the channels not broadcasting, well switch the box off (Into standby) then power the box via off via the power switch on the back left, wait 10 seconds then power back on, check channel(s) you have just saved, working now? Common problem with the Fortec mate, let us know.

Thanks, I will do it tomorrow as I decided to take the dish/motor out of the pole and check some loose in the tube of the motor. Maybe I have to tight it again.
I will update you ... cheers:confused

No problems mate, seen similar issues on one of the Panasonic made $ky boxes back in the day also another closed source box I can't mind what one, Never had it with the Spiderbox 7000HD, any of the Technomates I have owned but the Fortec was a glitchy piece of cr#p at the best of times, never liked a lot of different brands of USB stick for recording, certain pay TV CAM's & cards I had also took it notions with.... wouldn't decrypt the channels despite the card still being valid and it's entitlements valid, restarts solved this, not much use in the real world when a person could have a game set to record on Aljazera Sport and the stupid box doesn't bother it's arse to decrypt it, come home to 105 mins of a blank screen........cheers Fortec....bell-ends....

As @Ghostleader appears to say, and as I have said "several times", PLEASE get rid of the Fortec and get something much more modern and capable - ATM, you are trying to do things with a very old receiver that is just not suitable for "today's" satellite environment! We have tried to help you, but, unfortunately, you just don't "get it"

I have to agree. A person who has dabbed in the hobby for years would be able to sort it all out. But being new to it all you will keep going back and forth without much success. Second hand receivers are going for peanuts, look on Gumtree etc in your area, one on there for £15.

They ok with motors, I seem to remember certain Openbox/Skyboxes were a bit funny with motors? Or was it just the mini ones? A 12V supply issue perhaps I think was the problem. I think they would "crash" moving and need powered off/on.

Read the reviews on Google etc. There are also Youube vids of setting up.

Can't comment on the Openbox V9S, but the V8S seems to work with the Superior Darkmotor pretty well.
There are also others, like the "Free sat" "versions" and even the "good old" TM 5402 M3 - although they all have a few "quirks" that need to be understood

Might have a wee watch later in bed, I wish I'd hung on to my Skybox F5, it was fine with motors and a classy looking wee thing for the money, less than £40 back in the day.
