Was just outside for about 15 minutes.
And, yay, clear skies, for once. (past couple of years was overcast!)
I wore two soft-shell jackets, and a cap. Still am, in fact.
Bloody cold! About 11.5 degrees - not your idea of a typical August evening!

Saw three shooting stars with about 5 minutes between each, so reasonably "statistical".
Also saw at least three satellites - two slow and one fast.
All in all - got what I came for, both from the story (shooting stars), and the source (satellites.co.uk).
What more can you ask for?
:)

I know, I know. A beer. Coming up...

Here are a couple of the moon at the moment, down here.

And just for fun I thought I would try and take a snap of the stars. Best I can do with iPhone is star.

ooh - and BTW, I can recommend lying down not on the ground or in a recliner, but on the garden trampoline.
Not too soft, but still yielding...

May consider going back out in a couple of hours, but that would require a duvet or a sleeping bag to address the temperatures...

Just came back inside now that its clouding over but i did manage t see a few, even in the Midlands which has terrible light pollution. I used to go to Balmedie Beach when i lived in Aberdeen every time there was any type of meteor shower.

There was very little light pollution in Balmedie so it was usually spectacular if the sky was clear :D

Its times like this when you could quite easily become envious of where Analogusat lives.

I saw just two in the space of 5 minutes, then nothing for the next 10.

I'm not going to fall for it again.......

Went out again 2 hours later.
Laid down on the trampoline wearing more winterish jackets.
Saw 18 shooting stars in about 20 minutes. Most were just a streak of light, but two were real crackers (superheated plasma trails etc).
Was very cold in the end and went inside and headed for the duvet :)

I usually have clouds during the main meteor showers, so this time was quite different.
Once my eyes were adapted to darkness, I also marvelled at the Milky Way and all the stars out there. Makes you think about the vastness of the Universe, and how small we really are (personally and collectively).
Makes you think about how contemporary people mostly don't notice the starry sky - and an inkling of how our ancestors looked into the skies for direction, as well as general wonder.

And of course the number of satellites that - even being a few meters across - reflects enough photons for me to see the crusing across the sky.
Cool!

OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC
My Location
Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
We were out looking last night but it was too smokey from the fires South of us, will try again tonight as the wind will be from the North West, (we hope) on another nightly viewing, we were out on the house boat when the Chinese rocket booster came down, now that was a show, we saw it as it first hit the atmosphere in the West, and it took about 3 min to travel to the East before it went behind the mountains, it was breaking up as it went, what a show that was. (and what luck to see it)
