99% of the time the card is active for FSFS , ask the seller if the card is active by checking the Sony Channel .
If that channel opens than it's active and ready to go .

Only a very small amount of cards will not work as they are being turned off by sky for various reasons but you have to be very unlucky to get one .

If you do not want to record I suggest a SKY DRX595. If the system is set up for SKY then it is also set up for freesat including freesat through SKY. The viewing card must be paired to the SKY box which BT will do not SKY as you o not have a SKY account SKY aren't interested! At the same time BT will also add the BT sports channels to the viewing card allowing you to watch on your TV. I've set up loads of these.

Sky will pair the card to the box if the card is a genuine new FSFS card - activation of the card automatically pairs the card to the box. Also if the card was originally supplied to you then Sky will re-pair the card to a new box. However if the card is second hand obtained from someone else they will not as legally you are in possession of "stolen" property - read the back of a card it states it is the property of Sky Subscriber Services and the keeper of the card has no rights to transfer the card to a new keeper.

Every time I have calle SKY to pair the card (a new one purchased through SKY) The staff at SKY have been very unhelpful and not paired the card. This has happened on 6 occasions now! BT will do the whole process for you

Which call centre are you phoning - Sky TV or FreesatFromSky (FSFS)? Sky TV call centre are unable to do anything to FSFS cards as they are not on their database of accessible cards (a legal requirement I believe that FSFS and subscriber databases are completely separate) - you should be calling the FSFS call centre which also activates the cards (which in turn pairs the card to the box it is activated in).
