Hi everybody,

I come from France near to Paris and I study in England.
I will be expected to come back in France but I have to fix a problem before.
I have bought a SKY box (Pace 2200) because I need it to watch the freeview channels which didn't work in France because I had tested it 4 months ago.
However, I targered my dish (80 cm) towards ASTRA 2 but I didn't get any signal and any channel appeared. In my opinion, I suspect the PACE Sky Box because I couldn't change certain options which are for some incompatible with French configuration.
Do you think that I need to change my Sky box ?
If I need to do it which Sky box shall I buy ?
Shall I buy a sky view card (blue card) to watch free channels ?

Thank you very much for your help.

Welcome to the Forum!

There are a number of issues here:

First of all, pointing the Dish to 28E needs to be done accurately. Failure of your Box to show Channels could be consistent with inaccurate alignment. So, how do you know your alignment was ok? Did you use a Meter?

Second, can you please tell us what EPG Version your Box is attempting to use (Services > 4 > 5). If it is out of date, you will get some problems anyway.

Third, most free Channels are available without a Card.

Fourthly, the Cards are being swapped out for White Cards so a Blue/Yellow House Card is of limited (if any) use.

Rather than using a Sky box, you might be better off getting a standard digital Free To Air satellite receiver locally if it's only the Free channels you want.

You should also be able to use it's built in Signal meters to align the dish.

An example here:-

Thank you for your fast response.

I have a digital receiver (not sky box) which could get few English channels towards ASTRA 2. I have got a motorised dish, therefore, I can automatically turn over my dish. Thus,I suppose that I don't need any meter .

I couldn't get any channel from sky box whenever the position.
My quality signal is low with my Skybox, but, with my standard digital receiver, the signal is excellent towards the same position.

Sorry, but, I couldn't give you my EPG version because I guess that my brother in France is around. I'll give you later.

I think that the problem come from Symbol Rate (Mbaud) option because I can't turn into 26 or 28 for French configuration.

Thank you.

Yes, I would suspect a problem with the Sky box then, if your FTA receiver works OK on 28E but the Sky box does not.

The Sky box has been designed so that it is has very limited functionality on other satellites, with only a couple of symbol rates and FEC ratios.

Hmm ....... That's the correct latest firmware, which might mitigate against the box being faulty.

Once you've moved your Dish to 28E, do you have a separate LNB feed to the SkyBox or are you unplugging the Feed from the other Box and plugging into the SkyBox or are you using Loop Through from the other Box?

Hi,

Off course, I am targeted the dish towards 28E . When I plugged my standard receiver I could get few english channels (about 5) but then I replaced the standard receiver by my PACE digibox and impossible to find any channels. I could see a error message from skybox which said that it was impossible to find channels.
I am lost, I don't know why people could get channels in South of France or everywhere in the world and that it is impossible for me whereas I am so near to England.
I want to know if anyboby know the branch of a skybox which I can change the symbol Rate.

Thank you.

Which English channels exactly??

It is obvious you have an alignment problem or your dish is not tuned correctly using the skew on the lnb. You could also be using the incorrect type of cable which would cause only the strongest transponders to produce a picture. The tuner may not be as sensitive, the lnb could be failing or the incorrect type. There are simply too many variable here but alignment is the first to check using the other digital receiver

Hi,

Thank you for your response but I had done all steps you have described.
But, I found this website :
_http://www.bigdishsat.com/
_http://www.bigdishsat.com/downloads/freesat-new-spec.pdf

Do I need to buy both a skybox and a freeview box ?
Strange, isn't it ?

Thanks
See you.

If you only want the freesat channels I suggest you just use the basic FTA set top box you already have and check the alignment/lnb/skew.

I've found that sky boxes are deaf compared to other receivers. With an FTA receiver you should be able to pick up over 300 FTA channels - which (as posted) suggests an alignment / signal strength issue.

I have already a FTA because it's my standard receiver but as I explained that I couldn't catch more English channels (about 5) with it.
I want to know if the freesat is sufficient to catch free freview channels or if I need to buy both sky digibox + freesat. Thank you.

It's REALLY important that you tell us EXACTLY which 5 English channels you can get.

We STRONGLY suspect that the satellite dish (parabole) is not pointed at the correct satellite and what you thought was BBC1 was something like BBC World service. If you really did receive BBC1 there should have been a dozen or more variations.

Once we know this we can then answer the rest of your questions.

There is a Sky News International channel on 19E and a BBC World channel, can you please post the frequency details and any other channels you are picking up.

As suspected you are on 19.2 East not 28.2 East, as there is no BBC World on 28.2 East. You need to swing your dish 9 degrees West and perhaps down a small amount
