Hi
I am trying to find out if there is an option to get Sky Brazil channels, Intelsat 11 on 43.1 w, in San Diego USA, with the right dish of course.
I couldn't find any footprint of the Sky Brazil channels, maybe someone can help me?
Thanks a lot!

There is coverage from 43W into the USA but Sky Brazil seems to only transmit on a Brazil spot beam and doesnt use the Yank beams

Open the link, then wait for it all to open.

You should get 9 mini maps along the top of the main map. Click on the one 4th from right, labelled Brasil and you get this map.

This topic is also of interest to me. I know a Restaurant/Bar in South Florida (FT Lauderdale Area) where the owner claims to have invested a chunk of money in a special dish that can get the signals from SKY BRAZIL. I was at the restaurant last month, talked to the manager and asked how they were able to pull it off. The manager did not know the details but informed me that the owner has a tech guy who installed a huge antenna on the roof to get the signals. I know for a fact that it does not involve internet based solutions (such as SlingBox, Orb, Etc). The establishment was huge and had several TVs. I saw the employees actually changing the channels and they were able to get a lof Brazilian channels. I saw ESPN Brasil, different SporTV channels, BigBrotherBrazil. While he changed channels, you could see the program guide with listing. Other people I've talked to, told me that it is possible but it requires a larger than usual antenna and to sign up with the SKY with a service addressed in Brazil then have the receiver/card shipped here and keep paying the bills there.

Even though I'm just getting into the satellite TV hobby, I understand of the claimed Brazil Spot Beam technical limitation referenced here. I'm also very curious to find out how the Bar managed to get it to work and I'm actively researching the feasibility of doing this. Does anyone have any alternative methods of doing this as I am a witness of this actually working somewhere?

Best thing you can do is talk to the owner of the restaurant. It wont be a special dish as such - but it will be a very big dish indeed. If nothing else see if you can arrange a viewing of the dish and do some measurements.

And we would love some photographs of it!

In saying special, I meant to say a special setup, not that there is anything special to the dish itself.

I live in NY and I was in FL visiting friends last month when I visited the restaurant. I'll see if any of my friends down there are willing to take the task of going to see the owner for me rather than me having to wait until the next trip.

If anyone lives in the area, PM me and I'll tell you the name/location of the restaurant. I did not want to compromise the establishment in a public forum since I don't know where his setup lies within the boundaries of the law.

As this is a predominantly European forum it is unlikely you will have much response but well you just never know

:) I got that Topper, I wasn't trying to go beyond the scope forum but I when I googled SKY BRAZIL SATELLITE USA it brought me here. I just thought that the technological aspect of this could interest anyone/anywhere. I did open a topic on NAM-Based Satellite forum and posted the link to this post. Let's see what happens. Thanks.

This is along the lines of a similar project of mine. I would be interested in knowing how you got on.

xicosm:

this is what I came across during my research, which if i remember correctly was around one year ago.

There is a local tech, in the miami area who claims he can tune successfully into that satelittle with a 3.1 antenna.

These are his own words:

I LOCK the signal in the satellite Amazonas 61 West in Miami, Florida , ussing a 3.1 Mts antenna Prime Focus ,manufacture by Patriot my reading was 64 signal and 38 quality.... If somebody needs a technician in the Miami area Just let me know

I have his telephone number and e-mail in case anyone wants to try to contact him. I've tried and I did not get a response.

I apologize to the mods. I understand this is an EU forum but I thought I was my duty to share with the ones who are in the same boat as me. If you can point me to a proper location where is info could be of greater value, I'd be happy to post there too. Thanks.

This is an old post, but I'm going to share my knowledge if anyone else do have same question.

Now there's an iptv box called easybox iptv. With this one you can get both US, South American, UK, Arabic, German and Spanish, Portuguese channels. It just requires that you plug it into your router and then you can start watching your favourite channels from this countries.

IPTV is going to kill this hobby. Well, for those who have the speeds for it...

OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

With a big enough dish you may get almost any satellite in your viewing range.

The beams and coverage areas shown in the maps go by how many pico watts to nano watts it takes to get a reliable signal on that transponder for that satellite useing up to a 12 foot dish for "C" band or a 4 foot dish for "kU" band, they are not absolute.

I have a friend that works at a deep space monitoring site down in South America, when he is board we turns one of the 10 meter dishes to one of the US satellites and watches US TV.

This is possible because of side splatter off the antenna guards used to shape the beam, this splatter is receivable with a big enough dish, if he can receive the signals from Voyager 1, he can most defiantly receive the signals from a satellite that's in the local back yard.

If you look at the beam coverage for that satellite and you with in 400 to 600 miles of it then a big dish may be able to pick it up, what size dish is a big question, if you have access to a 30 foot dish then try it out.
