Yes but this still is relative to the current fleet of Astra 2.
What I was trying to find on the web, was news about SES ordering new satellites to replace them, but can't find any.
You cant find any info because nothing has been ordered! If & when new satellites are orded I guarantee one of our members will post about it almost as soon as the info goes public.

Going back to the question about satellite capacity replacement at 28E Im sceptical the birds will be replaced. We know the limiting factor of satellites is normally the station keeping fuel AND that the "space tug" concept has been successfully demonstrated twice.

I predict a space tug mission or two to extend the lives of whatever is still needed for 28E. Far far cheaper for SES to do that rather than spend hundreds of millions of $$ building and deploying new satellites that would never make back their development costs as satellite delivery winds down.

the delay of streaming bugs me, official streams are lagged. I dont watch regular tv broadcasts live so streaming is fine for that but live events need to be as close to live as possible. I foresee a time when they will purposely delay the ota broadcast and hope nobody realises so they can get everyone over to streaming.

There is already an appreciable delay in digital broadcasts, most noticeable when the first DVB transmissions were alongside the analogue services.

For anyone dealing in stocks and shares (plus gambling and gaming) one major consideration is the ping time (latency) to the exchange. Bookies purposely add latency into the content, often a couple of minutes for many reasons.

yeah i remember the analogue vs dvb delay days but streaming takes it to the next level. Im content with the dvb delay as it is but steaming can vary wildly.

There are a couple of threads on the forum dealing with delays affecting online gaming (and I suspect a few more relating to broadband latency issues)
