Spoof ITV and BBC region on Freeview

Hi,
I seem to remember years ago i could fake my region using a local postcode when I setup the Freeview box.
Is that true? Is it still true?

On Freesat you can do that. On Freeview I don't think you need to enter a postcode? If you can receive signal from more than one region it usually allows you to choose which one you prefer after scanning in the channels - that's how it works on my televisions anyway.

That's exactly how it works. Freesat, you choose. Freeview only what the aerial can receive.

Which can be a problem in some areas, such as Wirral where I live, as the Welsh channels from Moel-y-Parc are much stronger than the desired channels from Winter Hill. On cheap kit the tuner just simply picks the strongest signal without giving you the option!

As Ozumo says that was on Freesat boxes. I did it on the old FS box to give us BBC West Midlands rather than the dire BBC Scotland.

On old Sky boxes you can use an expired "wrong region" Sky card to set it to a different area. I can choose between STV, Border & Central on the Sky box in the bedroom just by switching the card & rebooting the box. As we prefer BBC England it mainly stays on the Central card!

I'm 'borrowing' a Freeview box from Argos t check the options vs mobile....
On a phone i can download Freeview Play and it asks me to set location or enter a postcode, but when i do it via am stb i don't get the postcode option.
Using Freeview Play I was hoping to get other regions via the box, like a phone (untested)

Freeview box you ONLY get the single region whichis carried by your local transmitter - there simply isnt the capacity to carry multiple regions for the one or two people in each ragion who want to watch something else.

You get asked for your postcode on the play app as its a mobile device - it needs to "map" the correct region to your device. If you want all the BBC & ITV regions via set top box then you have to go down the satellite route.

Freeview Play asks for a postcode so that they know whether to show you ITVX or STV Player, as there is overlap with what they have but only within their broadcast areas.

If it's just BBC regions you want to switch, although you can't do it on Freeview, you can do it via BBC iPlayer. Once you set your postcode, it will give you the live channels for that region.
