IIRC I bought it secondhand, and I had it running (not very intensively) for over a few years, I believe.
Why, is that relevant?

I just thought maybe there is a batch stab motors that have become defective after a year of use. I used mine intensively but Stab motors should last longer I would hope

I've a stab still running well after more than 20 years maybe closer to 25 and it has had some serious stick over the years with dishes up to 1.2 meters on it, i did take it down a couple of years back to eliminate the backlash it had developed which is now at zero. My brothers stab is around 15 years old ive 2 in the shed as backups should mine or my brothers ever fail bought second hand both seen better days cosmetically but still functional. Ive installed stab motors for friends and family also in the past and no failures so far.

Im always intrigued when i see one with a fault and pay attention to the issues i believe yours is faulty if you do take it down meter the ribbon cable connections as ive seen the odd issue with corrosion at those points.

I purchased the motor brand new last year so strange for it to have corroded points already. I remember I emailed Stab last year to ask if my motor had been refurbished, but they confirmed it had not been based on the serial number.

I believe they said 2011 and confirmed it was not refurbished.
I have now removed the stab and connected the Technomate motor and the motor moves without problems. What shall I do with the Stab. Is it possible to send it somewhere for repairs? I would like to know why exactly it stopped after a year. Or it was actually refurbished but dont like to say?

If it is inside two years and unopened then send it back to the supplier for a replacement.

The shop is hm-sat so different rules. I can imagine postage will cost as much as a new stab.

I doubt it is much different, at least let them know it has stopped working and ask for their advice.

I had a fault with the Octagon that came from Germany, they accepted shipping back and provided a replacement with carriage paid by them.

In many ways dealing with European dealers is much better than some sellers in the UK.

@a33, regarding modified motor angles would the values from the post below be the same for Technomate motor also? It worked well for my Stab motor.

Post in thread 'Usals problem & alignment'
Usals problem & alignment

One side of the motor has elevation upto 75 degrees and the other is Latitude upto 65 degrees.

Thanks

Yes, the modified motor angles work for any motor setup, and are just dependent of your site latitude.
(and of course of the radius of the earth and that of the clarke belt, but they stay the same. :) )

(Dish elevation scale is also dependent of the bend in the motor arm, so that may vary between motors! But the modified declination offset angle itself stays unchanged.)
