That's old Japanese quality that is! No idea what "National" is, though, but I like the manual channel selector knob!
Well funnily enough I've got one that looks very similar to telly #1 and is a Panasonic (I wonder if the Nikkai was built specifically for the UK in the early 80s, the cut out where the name is looks like it could hold a VHF tuning knob). I've also got a transistor radio (17 transistors) that was my dads back in the 60s and is made by National Panasonic. U-zzz I'll get me anorak.

hi -
just to satisfy my curiosity -
i made another plate at the weekend -

the only difference on this one is that the polyethylene material fits right down into the rings on the conical feed --

i can report that it is exactly the same in performance as the previous one, i just had to give it a try though l.o.l.
i tested on the recievable transponders at 20 west and 1 west -as i did with the other plates that i made .

it seems - the position that it ends in the l.n.b,s throat and the distance it projects from the front of the feed are the two things that matter on my setup.

i may try different material and/or different surface patterns sometime in the future -- but other projects are keeping me busy right now -

quite happy with my setup on both C band and K/u for the moment its the best its ever been :)

cheers nelson.b.

...Very happy that you're pleased Nelson ..
If you do discover anything that improves the T plates functionality ...I will of course be very interested
;)

...Sadly I can't report any real improvements ...
Still can't get a lock at 10 East ..
I have peaked my setup for what I believe is maximum output ...
..Got the lnb exactly at the focus ..as indicated by the X wires and Dish Cam ..
I'll post a pic of this tomorrow..to show the improved accuracy.
Also fitted the ESX lnb ..
..and in all honesty I can't detect any real improvement ...maybe .2 of a db ...but thats debateable ..as it could just be weather and cloud..
It does seem a little more stable on sats/channels I can already recieve...but hasn't justfied its existance yet over the BSC421..

If its better on certain freq's is it possible the T-Plate acts as another waveguide and Dilectric Plate at the same time.

So just need a mathmatician to come up with a waveguide thats right for the middle (??) of the freq's you want to improve.

I have already tried a chopping board. Got it from Amazon. But it didn't work :-( I guessed it was the wrong material.

Yes, similar comment to Chris1979, anyone have a material part number or similar from Amazon that is known to work ? Have hack saw at the ready :-)

Moving my plate around seems to make quite a bit of difference to the performance.

Ive not made one yet, but from my research bakelite sheet should work well, it has a high factor of dielectric constants, this is what I will be trying/glass, also the size you make it should make a big difference if I am reading things correctly.

Nice info Martin thanks.

Changed LNB over to the Titanium dual a few days ago and the results were not brill and not compatible to previous scans.

After some time I spotted on the bench another dialectric!!

dialectric diff2.JPG

Left is the Titanium and right is from the WSI ESX241.

Whether it was the slight size difference or the material composition of the plate I do not know, I altered nothing simply changing the plates over.......result, instant gain.....so ¿¿¿???. Fortunately I had already pencilled 'T' on the plate for ident.......blood* glad I did!

Whatever, my error now makes me believe that the spec between differing types of dialectric will make a difference.

So, Martin and others that are making their own will be even more interesting to see their work and the results.

Thanks. respect-048.gif

Hi, I had a quick play with the glass plate, it was only matching the original, i had a few bits cut extra to glue together to make it into a T, I will have a play later in the week and report back.

There was also this type of home made perspex plate that member @pride21 was experimenting with that in general outperformed a standard plate

Also check for the member DoktorofSat, who was constructing depolarisers with copper substrate, over a decade ago.
