My team colleague Onacila`s expecting delivery of the new TBS 5927 card earlier next week.
He`ll compare the new card not only to it`s predecessor TBS 5925, but also the rest of his cards (TBS 6983, TBS 6903, TBS 6522, Prof 7301) and also make a few additional tests in various bands to find its limits and potential .

Because he`s also working on a few very interesting satellite projects, this card will get very busy!

Does @CrazyCat know the hardware specs - tuner and so on, and the status of the device drivers, whether they are open source or not.
I guess what I'm asking is, is it future proof for E2 boxes or should I buy a 5925 while they last.
I think I read somewhere that you wrote a 5925 driver taking the tuner code from another v4l device.

100% open-source - tuner driver stv6120 + demod stv0910 + adapter driver dvb-usb-tbs5927. So possible compile driver for E2 box like tbs 5980, 5925.

@william1.

The 5927 is on the TBS site just today. You can only buy from China at present. You can compare the specs versus the 5925 to see if you might want to wait for the 5927.

TBS5927 Professional DVB-S2 TV Tuner USB

The main difference I see is that the 5927 has the USB input and the LNB input on the same end. They are on opposite ends on the 5925. But the 5925 also has a loop out connection, missing from the 5927. Probably to accommodate the fan.

The 5925 does run very hot, but I have mine sitting on top of the PC cooler fan vent, so it is always cold. I have mine looped through from my Dr HD receiver, which I use to scan in signals before decoding them with the 5925. It is interesting to see 16PSK signal which give no indication of their presence on the DR HD appearing on the 5925.

Mine does get warm William but ive had no overheating problems. I am going to put it in a fan case though

Cant see much different in spec ? 5927 is on the left only thing I don't see on the 5927 is loop out

Yes I had read about the overheating problems with the 5925,
The 5927 looks a bit bigger than the 5925 maybe due to the inclusion of the fan all sounds very positive.

So from a first view, it looks 5927 has the same exact reception capabilities sans the loop out, so the only thing that should separate it from its older brother is the sensitivity, and perhaps the lock time (5925 has some issues with that), especially with very very low SRs. Too bad though, they could implement a DVB-S2X reception as well!!!

^^^^^Why not buy the TBS 6522, going to order one myself this week

No ACM, that's why....
But ideal for any other reception type!
I'm really looking forward to the new Octagon SF4008 receiver too!

It has the new Si labs multistandard tuner. In theory it's more than able to receive the multistreams (55 and 40 east have T2-MI no multistream).

Since the appearance of regular DVB-S2X test transmissions on Astra 19E any new card replacing the 5925 should have DVB-S2X!

As you know,5927 tuner doesn't know this standard, but TBS bring out another dvb-s2x card- tbs6590,besides 6522 and 6528.I am convinced that will appear other models which will have this capability.
BTW, has been activated another transponder with an extension s2X-12621 V,10058,25/36,Dvb-S2/8PSK on Eutelsat 33B/33C at 33.1E:

The dream card that could be capable of DVB-S/S2 and S2X reception that we all want ain`t that unreal. Tenow knows that and I deeply believe that there will be one card available at some point sooner or later. Unfortuantely it won`t happen right now as the "dream chip", model number STi135D made by ST Microelectronic hasn`t been released for mass production. Well, if they ever do release it....

That`s why Tenow came with the new generation of cards that offer DVB-S2X standard and at the same time their technicians kept working on designing the next generation of top of the range cards such as 6983 or 5927. Company has simply found another way how to offer the latest technology and keep with the demand for new & improved products. And I personally think it was a good idea.
