Unless I'm mistaken, part of the shaft thread has almost totally stripped ("almost" meaning that it does transmit drive to the dish shafte but only with a very light load) - in which case there seem to be two alternatives: find & fit a new shaft, or replace the whole motor!
Are most motors designed in this fashion or is it limited to Technomate motors? Probably easier to buy a new motor. This would be my 3rd motor in 3 years . Not sure what other motor to go for now, only one comes to mind is Supreme Dark Motor.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!

Don't take a "chance" with a "Supreme" DM as it doesn't always work with all DiSEqC receivers, whereas the "Superior" version generally does.
Certainly drives my 1.2m Gibby without much problem - apart from:
- the motor to pole bracket bending a bit under the overall weight!
- propensity for it to stop driving past a varying degree to West and needing a hard-reset if left unused for too long!

See other threads on these issues!

These were on the circuit board. Will look for the specific thread.

All of those component failures point to basic design/testing errors (&/or "cost cutting"!) in those STAB motors.

Anything with driven moving parts such as motors should be tested in "locked" conditions to see if any components overheat &/or fail, and then the corrective action should be taken by the manufacturers! Seems like STAB didn't do that!

PS: In my jobs as a safety and certification engineer/manager I worked with design & development engineers in many companies (including 5 yrs with HP at Bristol and 8 with Racal at Reading), and that's what we tried to ensure was done to avoid failures in the "field" for both safety & reliability reasons (and thus for the companies' reputations!).

Tried looking for Superior Dark motor but seems to be out of stock when I search on google. Seen it in stock anywhere?

Seems that way after I took a look around myself - OTOH, I think @Channel Hopper may have one or two available!

OTOH, it seems that the only motors that are "widely available" from relevant UK sat stores (e.g. World of Satellite, Satellite Superstore) are generally the same TM that you already have!

Would it be just simpler and less time consuming replacing the complete unit now that you have access to it particularly if you don’t have the required expertise in that field. From what I can see replacement units are priced quite reasonably. Just saying.

I was just trying to keep my response as simple as possible after three pages of discussion. Short, sweet and to the point.

But was it actually even necessary, given what has been said in the last few posts?:confused

I thought so based on what I was reading. If anyone valued their time or put an hourly rate on their endeavours clearly the most logical solution was a total replacement after it was identified that a simple cable check and reset hadn’t resolved the issue and subsequently it had been discovered the housing had been forced open. Those units are so cheap to replace. That’s all I was saying. Just reinforcing your recommendation I suppose.

Yes, I do, they are not new but evaluation units that spent a couple of weeks on the roof with 1m dishes bolted to them.
Tested fully East/West, centred and reset.

£15 plus about £8 to ship to the mainland.
