110 Triax and I can hardly lock Thors difficult beam and I get nothing from sirius nordic.

I've thought of getting a 1.6 or 1.8 and put 2 lnb's for both on it. I wonder if the council will get me for that. Am allowed to have anything in the garden no?

Any thing over 90cm and your suppose to get planning permission.

But I have never done so with any of my big dishes. Most people dont know that you are suppose to.

So take the risk.;)

It is over 1m now which requires planning permission.

A 1.1m Triax should get the Nordic beam on 5E from London, I seem to remember my friend in Reading got everything on there with his 1.1m triax.

Smart lnb, 1m Gibby dish, Stab motor, TM5200D receiver, 57east to 61west. DTT from Sudbury. Virgin Media broadband.

London W3, no problem getting either of those two locations (5east and 1west). Nordic beam (5e) obviously down in strength and quality levels but still rock solid reception. What is the difficult beam on Thor that you are trying to receive?
PR

PS rolfw is correct, new dish rules allow you a 1m and 60cm in England without planning permission.

Park royal what dish you got? what percentage you get from 5e nordic?

Thor's beam: http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/thor3.html

Maybe my dish and the motor ain't properly aligned. Actual dish size is 1.10x100.

I don't give a damn about permissions. They supposed to be a guideline.

I guess I will have no problems but only if someone busts me.

My neighbours would never bust me. They know better ;)

Hiya Cheekykid

I have a funke 1m on the motor at the present.
Just done a check. BBC World (which I set up too), my receiver shows a 83% strength and 92% quality.
For comparison, 11823H, 12054H, 12169H and 12399H on the Nordic beam show up as 80% strength and 50% quality, which is to be expected.

PS, I seem to have read somewhere that the DB's front ends are not too sensitive.

I take it you live in Acton so only 10 minutes away from me.

It would seem strange for the signal to fall so dramatically here. Gotta check my dish

Do the nordic channels open for you with 50% quality?
I just did a rough test with my motor and I just managed to get 73% which for dreambox 500s means its bordeline. The channels opened but froze immediately. I did try several LNB's. The MTI 0.3 blue line is rubbish, showing 5% less signal than the rest i tried sharp, smart, invacom.

I will continue my efforts tomorrow by removing the motor and setting up the dish better.

Actually not far from the rail station, hence the user name.

I think that need to do abit of tweaking on your dish.

I slung a 1.2m up today on another motor, superb signal from 7 degrees west but not a sniff off of 26 degrees east. Too cold, tired and dark to carry on. So I will have a play around on another day.

Best of luck with your pointing exercise.

Actually i live only 15 minutes by feet from park royal station.

You should be getting arabsat easily with 1.2m. I don't know about nilesat 7w. My only hope is that I won't have to change my dish.

i can now update this thread with more info.

I got my dish aligned as good as possible. Nordic beam is received but not everything.

Anything below 74% is unwatchable for 500s alps tuner.

I just manage to open frequency 11823V but is unwatchable.
Park royal what you get for these?

From other frequencies I get a comfortable 83%.

All these with Triax 110x100cm and invacom 0.3.

Looks like one needs 1.40cm for comfortable reception.

Hi
As I posted before, 80% strength and 50% quality. The threshold on my receiver is anything below 20% quality will not give a picture, so I have plenty in hand.
We are on the edge of the 44-43dBw contour for these frequencies see
_http://www.flysat.com/dish.php
so you should be getting something.
As I stated before, the sensitivity of the DB's have been reported as being not the best.
I only run FTA, a quick check with TM5000 and TM 4100 and C-Teck 1500 give rock steady pictures. The Homecast S300 shows a blocky picture. So reception is down to the sensitivity of the box.
With a larger dish I expect that you will get reception inside the threshold of your receiver and get good viewing.

Hiya Gausie

Ah! Stanmore, top end of the Edgeware road. Best wishes with your setting up. I do not think that you will get the Nordic beam with a DB and zone2 dish.
