I am open for anything innovative, although the primary goal is extra revenue, I think its natural for people to be wary of change.

The NFL done this for the first time by having a game outside the US at wembley last year, and it was hugely successful.

I think the EPL as a brand is fantastic. I think sky have helped an awful lot with the transformation of English football. Dont forget that the doom and gloom merchants had football dooomed pre 1992 ( advent of Prem league) and of course the game changed for the better.

It may flop, it may succeed, but I am all for new fresh ideas. Of course I am not naive to think that its not about revenue, revenue, revenue.

I can just imagine Arsene Wenger's post match comments if Arsenal's 39th match ends in a loss while other premiership contenders win theirs.
Seriously though it would be tough to create a fair draw and there will always be complaints with this system.

It clearly says in the FIFA regulations that any professional game must be sanctioned by the hosting association, ie the FA, French Football Federation.

I'm not sure that it would necessarily apply in this situation, as I'm pretty certain that the law was designed to regulate games within the domestic leagues of the country.

I reckon the plan as it has been mooted will not get off the ground, as areas where they say the games would be welcome, seem to be saying that they would only want the top teams playing.

I don't have the regulations to hand (you can get them from the FIFA website), but I'm almost certain that it states any professional game, regardless of the organisation/league in which the game is part of. It's not of any concern as such about what competition the game is in, but all games need clearance.

From the BBC News Desk

Premier League chief Richard Scudamore insists plans to host games abroad are "not a dead duck".

Scudamore stressed the "39th game" proposals were in their infancy and that the FA and Fifa will be consulted.

"It's certainly not a dead duck," he told a House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport committee on Tuesday.

FA chairman Lord Triesman said there were a number of issues to be discussed but that it welcomed new ideas.

The Premier League unveiled its plans last Thursday to explore the possibility of playing an extra round of matches every season abroad, with all 20 clubs unanimous in support.
