Hi Guys,

I've been out of the sat game for a few years but when I saw new TD's on ebay I thought I'd get one to try. It's a very nice piece of kit. I flashed it with tdman 2602 and noticed it already had Mgcamd installed. I got a line and created a newcamd.list file and in mg-cfg I edited parameter G to 01. Both these files are in /var/keys. I have checked many times but cannot get it to work. I have searched various forums because I now want to try an image without Mgcamd as standard and install it seperately. Which image should I use and which Mgcamd should I use? I also cannot find any post that describes the actual installation of the cam (it it just ftp to a directory or is it installed via the box) There is plenty of info regarding the config but not about the actual inatallation. I know these boxes are a blast from the past but I would really like to get it running. If anyone can dig through the archives I would be very grateful!

Thanks, Richard.

As I remember this was a bit of a red herring and I believe other issues solved the problem. The Triple Dragon does seem to be a law unto itself!

Forget CS on the TD. Too flawed to work other than locally (or did). Just use the TD as a nice vintage SD box

Llew I agree the TD is well passed it's sell by date but I have read of some success stories back in the day. I have been talking to the Hisat guy who has been very helpful. I suppose I'm treating this as a lockdown project but ultimately (as you say) it probably will end up as freeview box! In the meantime though I would like to carry on so if you know of any cam setup/installation guides that would be super duper. Cheers.

Hisat peddled the receiver as having 'HD like resolution'.

Was there a terrestrial tuner version ?

No, I think this was the one and only box. I've never seen the DVD addon either! The SD quality is excellent, even through a humble scart lead! It is a well engineered box but I suppose the lack of third party support killed it off? As I said to Llew though, I would like to persevere with it a bit so I would like to get hold of any setup guides for cs, just as a project.

There was good support for the TD in its day. The JKF site was the one to go to, until the owner threw a wobbly and chucked us out. A German site too, although they banned discussion of the illegal aspect of CS (as we do).
I don't think I hold much softcam info that isn't in this section already, unless stuff is on another hard disk somewhere.

Yes I have found good discussions on TD but thanks for your replies. Just one thing (then I'll leave you in peace!), could you clarify the installation process for mgcamd? Do I just copy the mips file into a directory (which one?), or is it installed from the box?

Thanks for your support and stay safe.

Give me time (and a delve into my memory) and I'll see what I can come up with - it's years since I did much with the TD.
I'm sure the mips images had to be manually installed.

The official TD site (still up!) -

Find TDTool v.1.02. That's the app to flash your image.

Find the 'How To Guides' in this (our) TD section, and scroll down to 'How to update images etc.' for a guide on flashing an image.

Llew, I've just had a reply on another forum (not a very helpful one!) from someone who use to work for the Triple Dragon importers saying that because the TD is so old I'm wasting my time as it won't work? Hmmm.... I can't see cs being so different now and I'm sure many people bought it and got it working back then. My TD might be old but it's brand new out of the box. After all, I've got a 40 year old Betamax video that hasn't forgotten how to play tapes! Just for the record this is the only forum that has given me any real help although i'm not quite there yet! Thanks.

Brand new or not it is a simple fact that encryption security measures, to combat illegal viewing of satellite transmissions via key insertion and card sharing systems, has been beefed up considerably and is therefore not really of much interest to many people these days apart from people interested in the old processes, it is also something we do not condone. The offloading of obsolete brand new equipment of any description to people buying from Ebay is not uncommon these days. When I was a lad we used to call it being fleeced, my dad used to call the purveyors of such things wide boys, I am not really sure of the terminology of today.

Well put! (But for 16quid for the TD I thought i'd have a play with one)

You can have a nice new/old stock Humax SD unit for a tenner and I'll throw in a used but pristine Clarke Tech box.
