Hello everyone.

I have what is probably a strange set-up, which has suited my needs well. I live in a small flat and wanted lots of languages.

I have a rectangular Selfsat satellite I installed on the roof, aimed at Hotbird 13. I lead the coax through to an Edision Piccollo 3-in-1 receiver. This is hooked up to a Nebula Apollo mini projector that I use as my TV. The Edision receiver has one CI slot and one additional card slot.

I use a Kabelio CI module, which is a fantastic new service. I thought satellites were a dying technology when I got into the above set-up, to be honest, so I was heartened to see a brand new satellite service matching my needs. In between Kabelio and the Freeview channels, I end up with quality channels in all the languages I am interested in for the price of a Netflix subscription (for Kabelio).

However, the Italian selection was always poor and this bothered me. At the same time, I was aware of the Italian Freeview Tivùsat card, which only has to be purchased once and would then plug the gaps in my Italian channel section with great channels like RaiMovie.

Anyway, I recently took the plunge and bought the Tivùsat card and CAM module. I saw that my Edision receiver is sometimes sold in combo deals online alongside the Tivùsat card (without CAM), and so I imagined I would find a way to get it working alongside the Kabelio CAM thanks to the extra card slot. I figured I would buy the Tivùsat CAM alongside the card just to be sure. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I have no idea how to get them working together, only separately.

I really don't want to switch cards constantly, as I know that in practice I won't bother, or won't enjoy it, because it is a hassle.

My Edision receiver has a CI slot alongside a regular card slot. Kabelio has to go in the CI slot for sure, since there is no card involved there. The problem, then, is how I could get Tivùsat working alongside Kabelio on my Edision Piccollo receiver. As far as I can tell, either I need another CI slot (receivers with two CI slots seem to be prohibitively expensive), or I need to find a way to get Tivùsat working directly in the extra card reader slot, without the CAM module thingy (ideal solution).

I would really appreciate any advice, as I have been struggling with this for a while. Although I would not mean to ask anyone to go to excessive trouble to spoon feed me, if anyone is aware of some complicated software workaround, I would appreciate it if you could at least point me in the right direction to read into what I need to do, so that I might be able to figure out how to get things working. I am far from being an expert in any of this.

Which Tivusat CAM & card do you have? The Piccolo receivers sold with a card look like they usually come with a gold Tivu card. Has the card been activated and does it work when used with the CAM you have?

The Technisat DIGIT HD8+ appears to have 2 CI+ slots and isn't overly expensive.

Are you a swiss resident? If not a lot of people might be interested in some tips on how to get a Kabeliosat subscription activated if for nothing more than the UK channels on it

My apologies for not including this information in the original post. The card is gold in colour but does not say "gold" anywhere. It says "HD". It has been activated and works with the CAM if I remove Kabelio. If I could possibly get it working with the card only I think that would be ideal. The Technisat you cited came up as costing a few hundred for me whereas Edision was only around 50.

I am not sure how much to give away without getting myself into trouble.

I will say this: Act on the principle that they are looking for any excuse to take your money and won't be (probably illegally) checking your name on some sort of national residency database like paranoiacs who've had their fill of cash. I've not had any issues and have paid up for a year. After the initial trial period you are presented with various options to pay for up to 5 years in advance, with slight discounts the longer you sign up for. Use Google Maps.

It's sort of silly that Swiss residents can get BBC1 and 2 as part of a wider international package for less than a Brit must legally pay for a UK TV license. I'm surprised the Daily Mail and co haven't taken it up.

Have you updated the firmware? If that doesn't work all I can assume is when sold with a Tivu card it also comes with a CAM.
I saw the Technisat for €119, on German Amazon and eBay.

I don't believe the receiver is even manufactured any more so I'm not sure how I would do a firmware update. Thanks for letting me know Technisat is available for less. That might end up being what I have to do. It's a shame as it's too late to return the Edision, but I would prefer to buy an additional receiver to returning the Tivusat.

Use your fourite search engine to find firmware for the Edision. I assume the update process is - unzip the files to an empty thumbstick and then find the menu option to update firmware.

Thank-you it sounds quite doable the way you put it. Do you know if the thumbstick has to be formatted some particular way?

When I had an Edision Picollo, I was able to update it by getting a wifi dongle from freetv.ie and downloading the official updates. That said, the solution for you might not be the most recent official update.

FAT32 works for most receivers.

Thank-you. I think I managed to perform some sort of update but the card still won't work (I think it was broadly presented as the latest firmware update on some website). I'm not sure which specific update would help with the Tivùsat situation. There is a list here, for instance, but I have no idea which type of software or firmware I am looking for Downloads

Edit: The update I already performed was the 2021 one, here EDISION PICCOLLO S2 T2C SOFTWARE UPDATE - Dish Download

And I'm sorry for being a pain with this. It would be perfect if I get get it working through one of these updates

Try the last one from the first link you posted. Looks to be the most up to date 'unofficial' firmware. If it doesn't work with that then I doubt it's ever going to work.

The Tivùsat card should work in a receiver with an integrated card slot if it can run OSCam. From a brief search it doesn’t look like the Piccollo runs OSCam so you may be out of luck (I’m not sure what the softcam it does run for its slot is though).

There may be newer receivers with a CI slot (for Kabelio) and a smartcard slot that run OSCam to be able to support the Tivùsat card. Edision or Octagon may do one.

Thanks, I'll have to try and sell the Edision and buy another box, I'm realising. I suppose you would agree with ovum's suggestion that the Technisat DIGIT HD8+ would work, no?

Edit: I can't actually find the Technisat with a twin CI slot. I suppose my safest bet is to buy any receiver with a twin CI slot but I can't find any at a decent price currently. If anyone has anyone recommendations I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for all the help, I think I might have spent a lot longer wasting time on this without your advice. I ordered a "Zgemma H9" receiver from German Amazon a couple of days ago. It still hasn't arrived, but it should work fine as it has two CI slots.

Glad you’ve sorted it! As you say, that receiver with 2 slots should be fine to run the two CI modules.

Sorry I missed your post. I see it is sold by a third party (and used) and not Amazon which may be why you were unable to find it. Good luck with the ZGemma :)

I foolishly assumed the Zgemma included a way to connect regular (local) TV via antenna, but it does not!

This image seems to be mocking me, since the red arrow is indicating precisely what I want to do: Edision Piccollo S2+T2/C H.265 Combo + Tessera Tivusat HD Gold

Perhaps there is a difference between a Piccollo 3in1 and a Piccollo S2+T2/C H.265 Combo, and my original plan would work on the latter?

Edit: It seems I have the S2+T2/C in any case, whether that's the same as the 3in1 or not...

Another point would be whether it's possible to put the Tivùsat card inside the Kabelio CAM on the Edision? Maybe I'm saying something silly here but there is in fact a sort of empty gap in the Kabelio cam. When I have tried inserting it, I haven't gotten it to work. But perhaps there is an easier way around it with firmware or something?
