Managed to get a decent suite of alternative Channels from Emley Moor, pro tem.

Let's hope that doesn't fall over.

When Emley Moor was rebuilt it was to a different pattern using, basically, a big cigar tube instead of the previous latticework construction. It should be reasonably safe.

There was scheduled work and power reduction at Bilsdale on the 10th. As there's no mention of weather or police on any of the official statements, that would indicate finger trouble.

I see Emley Moor had a temporary transmitter installed in recent years, took over 18 months to install, so crossed fingers the Bilsdale mast is repairable.

The BBC headline that most homes have signal again is wrong. There's also talk of scammers going round offering new aerials, while they may be taking advantage, a roof top aerial pointing at Pontop Pike or Emley Moor will work for many who currently rely on Bilsdale.

I'd imagine that most people would have one aerial pointing to Bilsdale, so for Pontop they'd need it turning round or an additional one. Incidentally, Pontop Pike is but 5kms (as the service engineer flies) from my Mum's place. She only has Freesat however...

Sometime this afternoon, Arqiva will publish a timeline for the return of services.

Not quite right..The original lattice mast was replaced by a cylindrical structure which collapsed in March 1969 under the weight of ice on the guy wires. The present structure is built of concrete and has stood the test of time...

First Emley Moor and now Bilsdale......I suspect the Yorkhire Republic Liberation Army.

It'll be another two weeks before an 80m temporary mast is up and running, about quarter the size of the existing one.

Due to a firkin great hill preventing line-of-sight I get (got!) Bilsdale via reflected signal off another hill: Just done a manual tune and am getting a BBC NE/Cumbria mux. very weakly on an unexpected UHF Channel - probably one of the temporary lash-ups and/or reconfigured Repeaters.

(Channel 39, instead of 21)

Edit: Turns out to be Pontop Pike, which I've never managed to receive before.

I'll get my Mum to turn her fan off, that might help boost the power....

Just seen on a516digital's twitter that the Freeview Tyne Tees region PSB2 multiplex is now on 28.2°E 11306 H 27500 2/3 FTA, to feed the relays usually served by Bilsdale.

Perhaps they were still upset that Bilsdale transmitted the (superior) North East & Cumbria version of BBC One in' t'republic? :confused

Saying that, tonight's Look North said that there was "thousands" of homes without signal now. Quite a reduction from the 500,000 figure they gave two days ago...

Yes, disregarding those who receive their TV signal via a dish......
