Hi,

First post and I'm already asking about Adult channels :D

Firstly, apart from Sky Digital ( Which I already have ), I know very little about Satellite equipment and channels that are available.

I do know that there are complete setups for sale which say they have 2000 channels available. I'm not sure how to take this, but I guess they are talking about what you can get from many sattelites so would require a powered dish ?!

Anyway, for a nooob..... What channels are decent and what would I need to get to recieve them.

Please try to answer in noob speak, or direct me to somewhere that's readable for a noob.... already looked around the forum and most of it's over my head :)

Thanks!

Hi M8,
First of all, a warm welcome to the hobby of the sat world.
Yes as you think, there is lots more besides the sky lot, to be had in uk. what you need to do is i think, invest a £100 and look on ebay for a sat receiver. like a technomate or similar. then a motorised system ie dish and motor etc.of 90 cm or bigger.
next look on lyngsat, there you will find every available channel that is transmitting our way. just take a look at astra or hotbird both at 13 degrees east. you then see all that you are missing and rest assured you sure are, if all you are viewing is sky at 28 east.
just hope you can put up with the adult content on them, as its far more explicit then sky.
hope this helps for now. shout back if you require more info.

Hi,

As Wurzel says, there are lots of channels out there and you should definitely look at Lyngsat for info.

Astra does not broadcast from 13E (this is HotBird's position - HotBird 6/7A/8).

Astra 1E/1F/1G/1H/1KR/2C are postioned at 19.2 E.
Astra 1D/3A are positioned at 23.5 E
Astra 2A/2B/2D are positoned at 28.2 E (Eurobird1 is postioned at 28.5 E)

Lyngsat has all this information taped - so view this site for frequencies/transponder no.s/channel names/encryption/footprint maps etc.

In my opinion, it is not necessary to go to the expense of buying a motorised dish in order to view the available adult content. A fixed dish with multiple lnb's will do the job and certainly get you to your selected Sat & channnel and more quickly - the dish does not have to move, only the lnb selection is changed (internal stb box electronic trickery!).

A 90cm dish and a multi lnb (3 or 4 x lnb) setup will do the job for you. Look at Triax.co.uk for suitable kit.

However, if you want to look at all of the available satellites from your location, a motorised system is definitely the better option. But do remember that, like a car, a motorised system needs servicing from time to time - if you're at a distance from the motor, you won't hear the graunching noise when it grinds to a halt through lack of grease!

Because of your question, I would suggest that the main focus of your interest will be the HotBird Sats at 13E - HotBird6/7A/8 (8 used to be 2). These Sats broadcast adult material and some of the channels are 24hr - they are all encrypted and therefore you will need a CAM (Irdeto/Viaccess etc) plus a viewing card from the service supplier. The Irdeto CAM is reckoned by many to be more stable than Viaccess in use/and for upgrades and this card is gaining in popularity. Viaccess is already on upgrade 2.6 to cope with hacking.

Official Adult cards are readily available from many UK suppliers - some are supplied with modded CAM's. Anything from £39 to £200 per year depending on content/no. of channels etc.

The choice is yours - enjoy!!
