Just re-downloaded and reinstalled dump1090 - with Chris' BAT file from the .rar file, which was the critical element -, MLat Client & VRS 2.4

Working through them slowly, but 1090 is now running and displaying like this, at last:

PS: I have disabled KIS Self Defense, but Windows Firewall still say KIS is managing the Firewall tasks

Still waiting on my mate, to turn up, so I just popped up to say well done, dump1090 is now running properly.

It should now just be a case of inputting the information in to virtual radar server.

Chris

That's IF the VRS client will actually send the info - still not sure about that.

Been out shopping and then home having chish & fips (we have a very good local chippy - but not too often! :)) - will hope to get back to the rest of this job tomorrow morning.

A rather nice Bass Ale from Burton on Trent which has turned up in the local supermarket :)

Enjoy - our local TESCO carries a small range of quite decent "local" specialist breweries - £6 for 4 bottles - drank quite a few of those when the weather was warmer, but not today!:)

Ours carries Banks's Bitter (89p a bottle :D ). 250 miles from home & I can get my local beer from down in the Midlands :D

If Im REALLY lucky I can occasionally find Banks's Mild in tins in one of the local cheapie shops which I like even better than the Bitter. Its always a good day when I find that :)

UNFORTUNATELY, I can remember having to drink Banks P*ss on occasion when I lived in Bristol (I think it is local to that area) :( - for ever avoided since, because, IMVHO, there are/were far better beers almost anywhere (and certainly in Bristol!). OTOH, everyone is entitled to his own opinion :)

OTOH, THE WORST beer I ever had the misfortune to order was Watneys RED (not Red Barrel, which was somewhat better) in a pub in Acton sometime in the '80s - I ordered a 1/2 (it was lunchtime and I was only in the area to get some stuff from a cheap audio shop that was closed for lunch), drank a couple of mouthfuls, and then put the glass back on the bar and walked out - absolutely the most FOUL stuff I have ever had the misfortune to encounter!

Banks's is brewed in Wolverhampton. Personally I originally preferred M&B Springfield Bitter which was brewed half a mile from the Bank's Brewery but M&B closed Springfield in the 1990s - the building is now part of the University of Wolverhampton. :(

Maybe the Banks stuff I had didn't "travel well" :)

Back to "the subject in hand"

Fired up Dump1090, MLat Client and VRS (in that order) and this is what I am seeing on the latter at the moment - does it look right?:upload_2016-11-19_10-27-49.png

Yes thats looking good. 31 aircraft tracked in the last 5 minutes (or is it 10? - I cant remember)

You should be able to bring the main chart up now with the aircraft details on it. Open a browser (chrome works well, firefox works but is flaky on the menus) and paste this into it

Code:
http://127.0.0.1/VirtualRadar/desktop.html#

Many thanks - was wondering how to get that on screen

Dump1090 is currently showing 15-18 planes being tracked at any one time, and the Flight codes match those on the Virtual Radar web screen display.

BTW: in the VRS client, the network address shown to be working is 192.168.1.8 Port 3005.

Cheers

John

Depending on where you want to run the software you may need to change the ip address tp 192.168.1.8 instead of 127.0.01. We can work on that if its not working though.

My set up is this

netbook on windowsill: (192.168.1.112)
win7
dongle
dump1090
mlat client

desktop computer across the room: (192.168.1.2)
win7
vrs
vrs add ins (like the aircraft flags)

As the desktop is my day to day computer I use the local loop 127.0.0.1 to connect chrome to vrs & have it displaying on my 2nd monitor.

Will do something like that between the main PC and the ACER running the tracking s/w in a day or two.

PS: when this seems to be all sorted, may I suggest that a "short-form" set of instructions and guidance, and the gotchas, on how to get it all set up should be worked out?

I would be happy to do some of the "legwork" to put it all together - so that the rest of you can then tear it apart to put it right!

Then that can be put back into the main thread to avoid some of the potentially confusing conflicts which currently exist - especially w.r.t. downloading and setting up Dump1090, and maybe the VRS client.

Yup that sounds like a good idea. The definitive thread can be stickied & closed to public postings. If anything needs adding or amending one of the staff will oblige.

Maybe we start this in the green area where the regular contributors can help us get it right before it goes public.

Is your map displaying aircraft in the browser now?

OK, but don't yet know how I can access the "green area", but I assume that I don't yet have access rights.

Would aim to start knocking the first draft together some time in the middle of next week (I have some important stuff to do for the local U3A Digital Photogroup before that)

Edited: hope people don't mind me cutting and pasting a lot of their stuff to begin with - the fewer retypes there are, the less chance of typing errors and people will more easily realise where I have made mistakes (and I will)!

Yes, the browser is displaying and updating aircraft positions - and the Flight nos correspond roughly with those shown in dump1090.

Yah - now to get the splat maps (the jaggie plots), flags & the silhouettes working and you are good to go :D
