The new Optiplex build is coming along nicely ...
left WXtoIMG on auto last night and it captured a very nice overhead pass of the UK by noaa19noaa-19-03250324-contrastb.jpg noaa-19-03250324-mcir.jpg ...
Elevation achieved was 89 deg..

Wxtoimg has published registration keys on its website. When I enter the professional key it still says "Standard Version" when I click "About" though.

Are you saying there is a version that I can get that gives more access ?

Looks like the funs over regarding APT weathersat reception ...at least for me that is ..
Unbelieveably pager interference has not just increased a little ...but now is no longer adjacent frequency wise ...but actually using the same bit of spectrum ??
Is this legal ?
Whatever it is is so large it completely overloads the receivers agc ..but worse ..I cannot filter it out ..as it practically uses the same frequency.
All that spectrum to go at and whoever it is has chosen to occupy what they presumably think is vacant ...as indeed it is for large chunks of the day.
So ...looks like my expensive APT toy now is going in the bin and the QFH antenna was a waste of time and effort ..

I thought pagers were a relic of the past ??
More fool me ..
Doh!!

Might have been AS ...IF the signal had been close and not so powerful ..
I'll try and catch the waterfall ..a post it up ...
The only building that is new in the area that _may_ be the offender is the school/academy close by ..
but would a school use a pager system ....and after school hours ?
Maybe you could answer that AS ?

Unlikely - but schools need income & if they have had an offer they cant refuse from one of the local comms companies to utilise their roof........

..Well whatever it is ...it certainly put paid to this aspect of my hobby ...
..and Having paid £200 for a dedicated Polar Satellite APT receiver last year ...which is now heading for the bin ..
Has made me a VERY unhappy bunny..and I hope they land in court for frying their pupils brains..
doh

I might try and triangulate this crap ...just to find where it is originating from..

Ok lets try some lateral thinking. The forum is good at that.

Can you shield the lnb with something like small hole chicken wire tacked to a wall in the offending direction?

Or wrap ali foil around the outer plastic of the helical?

Not an lnb AS ...not a Helical ..
It is a large QFH antenna roof/chimney stack mounted .. RHCP
137mhz remember ..

Ah wrong antenna - ok Im straight on it now.

Thats up by the roof atm isnt it - not easy to screen.

So could you drop it down a few feet to get some shielding from the house?

..I could ..but that would defeat the object of the antenna ...
Sadly it cannot be directional ..and needs height to capture a polar orbiting satellite signal which rises and sets with different Azimuths each time..

It's a bit like trying to pin down the ISS ...

Yes I appreciate that - Im just trying to come up with something that might trigger your "ah I wonder if hes got summat" neurons.

Its certainly worth trying some triangulation

Presumably the local qrm is swamping the front end of the sdr receiver. I used to see similar effects on my old sw radio especially when a lass fired up a cb rig on a burner & a bloody big antenna a couple of houses down.....

Still no luck identifying this crap ..
What I can say is the data bursts are not regularly spaced ..and can last anything from a couple of seconds to abot 20 seconds ..
Audible tone always starts high then goes lower ..the lower tone contains what I think is the data ...
the higher tone is maybe a handshake ?
They can be found in multiple locations around 137 mhz ...
The waterfall indicates that during the initial tone which starts the burst and preceeds the data ...is approx 20khz wide ..the data being about 18.5khz ...
This is a useful list of logged data waterfalls and tones ....but damned if I can spot the offensive crap I'm experiencing ...
I'll post an audio capture when I can ..
http://www.sigidwiki.com/wiki/Database

This is a farly recent addition to the spectum and imo is local-ish ..on account it booms in at well over 25db ...
doh!
