Looking for between five and ten of these for a job, length ideally under 0.5m.

This one is a sample I received years ago and would (I assume) be the reverse of the RJ11 to BT plug adapters one gets on the vast majority of equipment.

Reason for getting them is to convert some BT phones (Duet 210s) to the incoming port of a TBU. These do not have the more usual removable RJ11 plug to the incoming line, though if they exist I would consider the next best thing which is a RJ11 lead terminating in a handset socket (RJ10)?

They look like these: CCS Leaded Voice Converters | Voice Convertors & Modules

It has, and is of great use, thanks.

I am trying to connect the Duet phone to a TBU (Glensound) and so the fewer adapters the better, which is why I'm looking for a direct RJ10 - RJ11 solution cable, but my searches haven't turned up anything.

Apparently the RJ11 can fit (and work) inside a RJ45 socket since all I am looking for is a two wire/analogue solution. Basically get a dial tone and connect using the keypad through the keypad.

Unfortunately The RJ10 doesn't, though I have not tried cutting and taping (yet)

Will the above not go straight in the back of the TBU's and the Duets plug in? If you want RJ10 to RJ11 just buy the plugs and some 4 core cable, crimping tools are not expensive on eBay, the RJ's are cheap on RS and available free next day. You will always be prepared for any odd configs and can make them a suitable length too.

I make my own as I deal with RJ10/11/12/45 etc on all sorts of data configs, had to do some stuff for RJ422/485 the other week to do with Whitbread trying to use Micros kit (IDN) with generic stuff. The cables were stupidly expensive and the pinouts were not published so just made my own and fed that back to the service department and got the workshop engineers making 100s.

Yes most RJ are compatible, provided they are wired correctly or you don't get an idiot messing around with them post installation...

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Do the phones involved need a ring capacitor to make them ring (usually ones wired to BT specs, unlike rest-of-the-world specs which just use 2 wires)? If so, make sure to get PBX Master type adaptors which have a cap across pins 2 & 3 to allow the phones to ring properly...

They won't have that requirement, that was removed a long time ago.

I think it is purely the Duets as they have a unique RJ10 to 431A cord, which is not compatible with the Glensound input, hence an adaptor.

Well, some places keep their phones around for so long that they still need the ring cap, saving them the need to buy new analogue tellingbones... :)

So the Duets have a RJ10, I wasn't sure reading your original post if it had a detachable cable or not.
Firstly does it work using a RJ11 - 431A adaptor you already have? If so they are using a standard pinout and making a RJ11/45 to RJ10 will be easy.
Or I can find the exact cable you need.

Is it RJ45 or RJ11 on these TBU's? *EDIT* just found the technical info on this TBU, RJ11

Ok, don't search for RJ10 as that is not really an "official" name... I wont go in to that here.
As RJ10 can be RJ8/9/10 etc. Though those names are worth a search.

You need:

4P4C to 6P4C cables... or 4P4C to RJ11

Possibly this:
eBay
400787307456 (Wires look swapped in plug, cant really make it out, so don't take a chance just buying them)

Or just 4P4C - 4P4C and plug it directly in to the back of the TBU, it will fit, try the reverse end of a phone lead to make sure.

Done all that.

RJ10 is known by a number of AKAs.

Tried that, yes, it fits, but no connection / tone.
were the RJ10 straight through and wires going to same place on both sides of the RJ10's
Look at the wiring on the Duet cable and then the BT plug, compare that with the adaptor and then you can figure out what RJ10 - RJ10 you need.

If a BT phone is involved they sometimes use a different pin configuration. I had this problem a little while ago using a UK phone in France.

Trying to use a BT Concero 1400 cordless phone in France

Thanks for that, though I've been using an olde analogue phone for years in the house, and it runs via an ADSL filter where the incoming - removable - cable has two wires only from the 431 plug to the RJ11. These are only the inner two connections made at this end (red and green) and I assume these run to pins 2 and 5 within the BT plug/socket.

I doubt there is a requirement for polarity though I could be wrong with this (a half rectifier in the phone should sort out the necessary power for operation, however the Duet does have a unique cable, presumbly to reduce manufacturing costs, allowing a complete bypass of the base unit, two additional sockets, the labour force required to build it and any multi-testing in the lab for CE approvals.

In light of the above, I am assuming only two wires are required for operation of this phone when connected to the TBU, or is this totally incorrect?
