Anyway, it may all be an academic argument. If Glazer succeeds in buying United, it'll be the end for a lot of people. Me included. I might even transfer my loyalty to City.

I'm gonna be a typical Liverpool fan now and go on about the past - I was judging success by number of league titles and European Cups won (18 and 4 respectively for Liverpool - United I believe are on 13(?) leagues and 2 European Cups).

I kind of hope he does - you speak far too much sense to be a Man Utd fan!

@blackninja

Thanks for the compliment. But like I said earlier, I'm an old fart who can remember standing on the terraces BEFORE the Munich disaster and before United became a media circus. And I can remember the fans of United and their opponents standing in the same enclosure. We were all sensible back then because it was, after all, only a game of football when there was a cap on players' wages.

My loyalties were formed in those idyllic days before the end of the sixties. I remember meeting one of the victorious 1968 European Cup team at several of my mate's parties - and we were nowt but ordinary working class lads. I can't imagine anything like that happening today if for no other reason that a United player's Bentley wouldn't fit on the drive of a suburban semi.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Welcome to the forum!
May I also point out that other than the sending question problem you also seem to have problems reading forum rules and regulations?! Please go to the following link and read
http://www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=96

Please post ANY question in a forum that is relevant. For instance your problem would probably be better served in http://www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=58

Man, you are lucky I found you first, because if any of the other mods would have seen this they would surely have :-Axechase and :-saw not to speak of :-bash you! So, in order to thank me for saving you go to the "Which teams you support/hate" thread and vote!!

I am dead serious about the voting  . I hope he understood the hint of whom to vote (I usually have a big read clue in shape of a crest on the bottom of my posts just in case....)

Blackninja,
i do beleive the saying what goes around, comes around whenit comes to decisions...
example, we went out of the Champions league to Porto last year.... the ref disallowed a perfectly good goal by paul scholes :( then we all know what happened at spurs.

as for the european success Liverpool had...

1977 games..
1st round - Crusaders (norther irish champs) 7-0 agg
2nd round - Trabzonspor (turkey) 3-1 agg
Q final - St Etienne 3-2 agg
semi final - FC Zurich 6-1 agg
final - Borussia Moenchengladbach 3-1

1978 games..
1st round - bye
2nd round - Dynamo Dresden 6-3 on agg
Q final - Benfica 6-3 on agg
semi final - Borussia Moenchengladbach 4-1 on agg
final - FC Bruges 1-0

1981 games
1st round - Oulu Palloseura (Finnish part timers) 11-2 agg
2nd round - Aberdeen 5-0 agg
Q final - CSKA Sofia 6-1 agg
semi final Bayern Munich 1-1 agg liverpool win on away goals
final - Real Madrid 1-1

1984 games
1st round - Odense 6-0 agg
2nd round - Atletico Bilbao 1-0 agg
Q final - Benfica 5-1 agg
semi final - Dinamo Bucharest 3-1 agg
final - AS Roma 1-1 liverpool won 4-2 on penalties

you cannot compare the old European cup with the new champions league.... although winnning is still an acheivment, i have to say that the peroid of dominance that Liverpool had came at a good time for them really...
and Manchester United, Arsenal and now Chelsea have a much more difficult competition to win, harder teams and more games.

Nothing against Man Utd & Arsenal fans, I think the joke doing the rounds about "Why do they stink? - So blind people can hate them as well" is most un-funny. :-(

There is only love in my heart and I just don't hate any other football team even if their players are ogres, their manager spits and their fans eat shrimps

Tranmere Rovers

LOL!

Slighty, ok massively OT, I have always had a servere dislike of american football (tushies with padding) and, for that matter, australian rules football (just tushies); but I'm sure i'll get shot down in flames. Its only my HO;)

Back to the poll ..

Have Fun,

Mark.

A different competition though not necessarily a harder one. Back then the competition consisted only of the various European countries' champions, but then again that means Italy's (e.g Milan/Juventus), Germany's (e.g Bayern Munich), Spain's (Real Madrid/Barca) and Portugal's (e.g Porto/Benfica) champions were all in it and were all bettered by Liverpool.

By the way does anyone know where I can get a stream of the Liverpool-Bolton game? Can't get Canal Deporte or Sky Italia anymore (bloody Murdoch!!) Hopefully Bolton'll be slightly more entertaining than Everton were in the Mersey derby I was at the other week (HOOF!) and won't decide to take our whole team out when they realise they're getting outplayed (which isn't likely - we're the underdogs according to the bookies).

The team I hate most are Fulham, because I have spent the last ** odd years waiting for the plonkers to do something useful, in the mean time my hair has fallen out, my money has disappeared, my brain is scrambled, but just occasionally they do something right like in the second half against Portsmouth today, almost makes it seem worthwhile. ;)

yeah 3rd division to premiership safety in the space of about 4 years - I wish they'd do something useful!

Geordies.
Claim to be everyones fav second team but are an absolute joke club.
Chairman was shown up in the NotW for what he is.
And the recent incident has been completely brushed under the carpet.
Awful club.
PS Sunderland however...!

Yes I suppose your right even though promotion was three years ago, but as for Premiership safety I think you had better check the league table as we are not out of it yet. O-no

This is very intriguing: More people have voted on the "Hate" Poll than on the "Love" poll....

It is strange. Whilst I love Liverpool more than I hate Man U (Glazer=broke[hopefully]) I do keep hearing about teams driven completely by hate. For example Celtic and Rangers fans - which is the stronger feeling: the love for your team or the hate for your Glasgow neighbours? Also having heard the songs of Blackburn supporters I didn't hear one song praising their own team - it seemed to be entirely 'We Hate Burnley'/ 'Never be mastered by Burnley b*stards' etc etc Why not celebrate the success of your own team rather than focussing your entire attention on a team a whole division below you? (Only heard them once mind.)
