If i can pick up some of the vertical transponders on astra & hotbird but not all do you think it is a reciever fault or a dodgy LNB?

Doesn't sound like the LNB for the minute.
Have you tried to rescan the individual transponders or entire satellites?
And, is it only on those birds that the problem occurs or across the whole arc??

Seems to be mainly Vertical transponders, i can get 42e - 1w across the arc, but i would say about 50% of the vertical transponders are missing. nearly all the horizontal ones are fine and i generally get about 85%+ siganl strength apart from 42e & 1w which are about 70%

It's gotta be worth changing the LNB for the amount that it will cost?!?!

You can pick up a reasonable one for a couple of squid on eBay...

Always worth keeping 1 of these in the back pocket as i've found out

cheers guys, will buy a spare on ebay and give that a try, are they fairly simple to change?

Dead easy, just make sure you seal it and the cable before you finish.
