Absolutely no sign of any signal reducttion here on an 80 cm dish - das Erste is still coming on at:

SNR 89%
AGC 87%
BER 0

dzankizakon you should be able to get the BBCi interactive stuff off 28E - they will be showing some of the WC games as well.

Just to happily report that my satellite guy has fixed the dish positioning and now I have both ARD and Das Erste in glorious HD ;-) Let's just hope they will be showing the World Cup matches without problems or encryption. :-)

As far as I know (and pretty sure about it) ARD and ZDF are showing 26 or 27 games in HD format.

I saw the France game on RTL Austria tonight, ZDF or ARD didn't appear to be showing it.

I to was getting ARD Das Erste from 19.2E the other evening but not now. It seemed very much like they have reduced their power. No amount of realigning has solved it but the channels I can get from 19.2 are excellent quality (some channels don't give any signal at all and never have done).

Will a larger dish help to alleviate this problem?

I have ZDF from the same sat but they don't seem to be showing any/many games (I think it's ZDF Neo).

I'm not sure RTL Austria is available on this sat?

So far FTA has offered nothing at all for WC Footy on this first day with the kit I have :(

Any other suggestions for reliable FTA coverage with this size dish in southern Spain?

Check the listings on liveonsat.com, there are a few FTA channels showing the World Cup but check carefully as some encrypt for kick off.

I went to one customer with a 1.5m offset dish nearer to Larnaca and tried all lnb's but got a very weak ARD with a lot of pixellation. Another customer in west of Limassol same dish and with a technomate twin TM2 (0.1db) lnb and Ard came up strong signal ., But very critical alignment for that frequency ,11.836H.

Well, I must say, I'm not sure the frequencies and symbol rates shown from my box correspond too well with what's on Lyngsat. The ZDF I get is 11055 H 27493, Lyngsat doesn't even show this. It doesn't show footy. For ZDF at 11954 H 27500 I simply get no signal. For ZDF HD at 11362 H 22000 I get signal intensity 28% and quality 11% and I think it's about the same for ARD Das Erste (I don't have HD TV anyway). But very many channels come through loud and clear with over 55% signal intensity and 75% quality, these show absolutely fine.

I reckon I might get a 90cm dish up on my wall which would give me over double the receiving area but I'm not sure if this would bring signal intensity up from 28% to 55%? Looking at footprint maps it makes me dubious. I'd quite like to get ARD or ZDF but wouldn't spend a lot of dosh as the rest of my life I never watch TV anyway and I certainly wouldn't be able to get the UK fta anyway (huge dish required).

I haven't been able to find anything on the net that gives info about signal intensity related to dish size. Anyone got any ideas?

You may as well get a Gibertini 1m.

It would bring an improvement, but it would be hard to predict by how much. Regardless, it would mean fewer instances of rain fade and provide insurance against future problems with weak signals.

You can paint the dish with matt spray like plasti-kote if you want to blend it in with the wall. Don't forget to paint the mount.

The penta 85 or Gibertini 85 are possiblities but I think the Gibertini 1m is the best bet, it is what I would buy.

Aluminum is best if you think you might motorize it someday.

It seems that ZDF and ARD Das Erste have been pressured not to show World Cup on 13e; they are only showing the World Cup on 19e. I have also noticed the ZDF on Hotbird not showing football but its signal is there (unlike Das Erste whose signal has been {temporarily?} cut, I believe); I suspect that this is their compromise for their presence on 13e during the World Cup.

ZDF on 13E has turned into entertainment channel ZDF Neo for the duration of the WC.

It seems that ARD and ZDF have bottled it large. Maybe it's their compromise for getting a cheaper deal on the coverage. I wonder if their team will bottle it also in the later stages? I have retuned to Atlantic Bird 3 and am getting France 2 and 3 loud and clear (but not much else, didn't seem a lot of point fiddling excessively when I really only want a bit of footy). I don't think they're showing all matches but beggars ...... I hope their transmission stays as good as it is now with no encryption or funny tricks. Vive la France! I hope their team comes second ;)

No idea - reports on DS suggest not.

1.2m would be good for Astra 2D there, and 80cm for all of Astra 1. Or, 1.2m for Astra 2D and an offset LNB for Astra 1.

Yeahhhhh so guess what? France 2 scrambled for the footy! What a suprise? Footy ceased to be a game and became a business in the days of my youth. Now there's little doubt that nobody can break the stranglehold of commerce on the world population. Now I don't hope France come second.

Ghana for the world cup ;)
