Do people even fall for these any more?

Not forgetting the appallingly bad use of English esp. Para 2 Line 2
On that I agree - but posted it as it could catch people with Metro a/c's

Unfortunately there are in this world very many thousands of silver savers who have either never had the opportunity or have never had the inclination or need to venture into the on-line world of banking. I consider myself lucky that I requalified in IT back in the 90s but many others never did and now they are faced with local bank branch closures and are suddenly thrust into this mystifying world. I am fed up of offering my services to organisations in order to assist others in this but it is simply a case of, it is a generational problem and will only disappear with the disappearance of that generation unless organisations take the matter seriously. It is up to the banks to make guarantees that no customer will lose money whilst using on-line banking services after all it is them that are reducing their wages bill and are responsible for the security of their banking systems

"They" only need a few to fall for this sort of racket - it's a %age game.
Made more plausible by the fact that Metro are one of the higher profile "new" UK banks offering relatively good returns for some, and relatively "hi tech" means of banking.

Topper is probably right about the generational aspect, but I don't think it's entirely restricted to the older generations because many younger people use banking apps on their phones, and it is then difficult to see that the "devil is in the detail" on a very small screen, especially if you are doing your banking whilst on a train/bus/etc., etc.

Just perusing my spam folders today for some nice pictures of women, and spotted this:

No, I don't... :-rofl2

I know it's no "Your $2.5 Billion reward is ready!" message, but, the simplicity of this one, it had me laughing, though, it did slightly worry me that it got a part of my name right....:-rofl2

Seems I "won" a 2016 BMW X-3 and a "bit of cash" yesterday - but the X-3 is not my "cup of tea", and so I "passed" on that "offer" :)

I'm selling a guitar and amplifier on 'Le Bon Coin' (a French classified ads site) and have had three emails offering to buy the items sight unseen and sending a cheque for more than the asking price to cover carriage overseas (French Dom-Tom). Of course the cheque is a forgery and not worth the paper on which it's written. Apparently it's a fairly common scam on Le Bon Coin.

Just maybe found out why I get so many spam/phishing emails because I have just received a letter from the EQUIFAX credit checking ("geddit"!?) company to tell me that my personal data had been accessed following that recently widely publicised cyber attack!

Luckily, no real damage does seem to have been done over the years and my credit score is still Excellent!

OTOH, they offered me an apparently non-time limited free use of their Equifax Protect and Webdefend monitoring services - so I've just signed up for "the lot" covering potential misuse of my email addresses, bank accounts and plastic cards, phone numbers, NI number and so on!

All that takes quite time but it should give a little more protection - won't stop anything that is already "out there" but might help in the future.

If anyone else gets a similar letter I think I recommend that you take up the offers

Unless, of course, that Equifax letter is a, by now, highly successful phishing scam itself :-wow

Cynics abound here but, somehow, given the extent and depth of the letter and of the website, I don't think that to be the case - so this was "Another offer I am not able to refuse" :Y

It seems some changes may have taken place recently at BT as my spam folder has very little in these days and I decided to check today as I normally empty every two or three days and there were only half a dozen and three that should not have been in there so I suspect some sort of algorythm has been implemented recently. My normal daily complement into the automatic spam bin was 75 - 100 per day, this week it has been less than 12 all week
