do the people that operate these feeds, only give enough signal to reach the destination, i.e do they control it, or does it just depends on the size of their uplink equipment?

They absolutely control it, they will aim for a certain db rain fade margin based on the dish reception at the other end, no point pumping huge watts into it if no need. Their receive dishes are 3.8m to 6.3m for Ku depending which one they are using.

This satellite is also quite weak, so a very powerful uplink signal could effect other ones which they won't want to do.

ITV feed is constantly breaking up for me tonight. Coventry vs Birmingham on 11008V 10000 and the UKR-028 feed are stronger.

Get that 1.5m Gibby on it, it will sort out them vanners and their tricks with the uplink signal level.

lol until the next feed that is out of reach of a 1.5m - does it ever end...gone from 88cm Triax, to 1m Gbby, to 1.2 Laminas to 1.2CM - and now...looking at 1.5m's - my garden is a decent size, but limited for sat sigs, unless wall mounted or placed in middle of garden path
:)

I started off with one of them flat squarial dishes for SKY, stangely enough when I lived in Sutton just a few hundred yards from the footy ground that was on the 3.0W feed tonight.
It became a natural progression for me.
0.6m --> 1.2m --> 1.5m --> 1.8m --> 2.0m --> 2.2m --> 2.4m --> 2.8m.

The handy thing about a mobile platform is that it can be wheeled around easily, immobilised when in service, costs next to nowt to build and can be stashed away when not in use.
I built mine from a free pallet from the local builders yard, a set of 4 castors from eBay costing a fiver, some metal and bolts for the immobilising system costing around £20 and a bit of gravel board and decking off cuts to reinforce it.

I'm going to split these GTCombo posts into a new thread unless anyone objects?

Aye, crack on bonny lad, a topic in the receiver section would probably be appropriate?
