Why would the feed need to be FTA for VLC to cope with it?

Errrrrr, was just thinking about the BISS encryption hurdle for the SF8008 but didn't want to go into any greater depth

I used the Azbox for 422 back in the day but can't for the life of me remember what the 4:2:2 playback quality was like. For the price of around £80 for the domestic GTCombo that also clears BISS, i don't expect it to get much better on the 4:2:2 playback quality - could be wrong ?. Iv'e got a SF8008 that i could try to stream to VLC but the feed would have to be 4:2:2 fta which are a bit rare to find

For what the GT Combo does for £80 it's a no brainer buy, nice interface, pours Poop and does a half decent attempt at 4:2:2.
Great value.

Playback was great, it was just the rest of the box let down by crap software which Opensat never fixed...

How are the GT Media boxes in terms of EPG? Is it near the levels of an E2 box?

Thanks

I used to use it when the 10e feed of Eurovision Song Contest was MPEG2 and it was pretty damn good, no stuttering at all.

Mine just gathers dust now, its slow as hell to boot and do anything with.

all Enigma2 receivers (with the right image) can use Openwebif to broadcast 4.2.2 feeds to the PC.
Here an example with the Edision MIO4K

With the GTmedia V8 Turbo and the right tools you can achieve the same result

Aye this is a good trick. Only feed ever to trip me up was the 4K Isle of Wight festival feed, 4:2:2 16PSK and a SR of 33333, it was either my PC choking on it or what I think is more likely is the network port on these receivers is only 100mb rather than gigabit.

I doubt that. I tested the edision Mio 4k which has 100mbps card recording a 4k stream to my NAS over my LAN. Hardly used any bitrate

Try an online bandwidth calculator using 16APSK with a 33333 symbol rate, depending on the FEC over 100Mbps is possible..

It looks like you have ordered the GTMedia v8 UHD. Did you mean to order the GTMedia GT Combo or was it the v8 UHD you wished to order?

For clarity, it is the GTMedia GT Combo that has the 4:2:2 functionality and Android O/S.
The v8 UHD is not Android and has no 4:2:2 functionality as far as I am aware. However, for the money it is still a great buy.

Anyway, again I appreciate your comment and please take care. :Y

This is the GTMedia v8 UHD model I bought yesterday.
Slow delivery but at just over a bullseye delivered it looks reet good value.

The GT Combos' are listed at around £68 - £70 today but they slap you across the chops with a dose of VAT that jacks the price up to around the £80 mark.
I will have a sniff tomorrow for a GT Combo to see if there is a wad peeler that grabs the eye.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

For the £100 mark there are SF8008 combo suppliers around if you look carefully.

So, is the GT Media box better with 4.2.2 based on newer components inside, or the envisaged product support moving forward?

Probably with envisaged support moving forward?
To the best of my knowledge the 4:2:2 is a bit stuttery on some feeds at the moment.

The SF8008 can provide a picture of a 4:2:2 signal by routing the signal to IP as an mmu file or some similar type of extension. The kodi app in the SF8008 then connects internally to the mmu file and clears it.
Octagon provided a set of screenshots on the forum a while ago on how to do this.
