    Cycling on Satellite Blog

_http://cyclingonsat.wordpress.com I've started up a blog, which I plan to update every time I know of a cycling race being transmitted FTA on european satellite. Check it out if you're a fan of cycling Thanks, Luke

My Set Up - Slightly Neatened..

I know, I prefer to use a barrel, as it prevents kinking in the cable when the coax comes straight through the wall. :)

My Set Up - Slightly Neatened..

I spent a little while recabling my set up. The coax used to enter through my window frame, but I've now drilled through the wall. I've also used CT100 this time round. The cable run itself is very short, so I didn't think installing a wall plate would be out of the question. I used a...

Just bought some compression F connectors and they're brill.

Hmm, I've seen some PPC connectors on eBay for cheap...they're the ones Virgin Media now use. What are they like?

Ah. I guess using a pigtail might put a dent in the dialectric causing an impedance discontinuity. Thanks for the advice satelliteman :)

Yeah I fold back the pigtail of braid and cut it so it won't protrude out of the bottom of the F Connector, then screw it on. So are you recommending not twisting the braid into a pigtail and just folding the braid back or..?

Just bought some compression F connectors and they're brill.

The screw on F-Connectors I fit never unscrew without a bit of force! I think it's because I wind the strands of braid into one pigtail so the connector sits on nice and tight. Is this a bad idea from a connection point of view? Until the price of the tools to fit the compression connectors...

My New (But Still Basic) Setup - 65cm Fortec and Inverto LNB

Well when I took my Zone 1 on holiday to watch the cycling the wind blew it over and snapped a bracket.......the perfect excuse to buy a new dish ;). I popped over to Maplin and bought a 65cm Fortec Star. I had to use the old Skyware LNB on it until today, when my Inverto SilverTech arrived in...

    DIY Homemade UHF Aerial

I first saw a video on youtube with a guy making one (wasn't perfect), so I did a little research and it turns out over a lumenlabs there is a massive thread about them. Someone bought a real one and got all the dimensions, so I followed those.

    DIY Homemade UHF Aerial

I've put together one of these DIY UHF Aerials. It's in the design of a grid aerial, made using some old coathangers, a 3' strip of pine, some cardboard and foil and some screws with washers! Wouldn't be so great for outdoor use, but it works a treat in the loft :) Next up........a foil...

    Metronic 'The Original Box'

You probably already know this, but..........If you've got the Metronic set up to the VCR by SCART, you'll need to set the VCR to its SCART channel. Sometimes this is called E1/E2 or AV1/AV2 (depending of course in which socket it is connected to). A VCR should be able to record from it just...

    Metronic 'The Original Box'

Glad that it'll work for you. I'm still in the middle of learning French, hopefully watching from French TV on 13E Hotbird will help! :)

    Metronic 'The Original Box'

Hi Daniel. I'm not too sure how long Eurosport Ananlogue will last, because when they bring Eurosport HD to 19.2 they might say goodbye to analogue to free up the bandwidth. Canal+ compatible just means you can buy an add-on decoder and plug it into the decoder SCART scocket of the box! As...

    Wall Bracket

I got a U Bolt that does the trick. The dish has been up and serving me well on Hotbird for a few days :) So you don't think my current bracket would hold a 65cm Fortec Star? BTW the base of the bracket is 200x200mm (8"x8") The supplied bracket with the Fortec Star looks worse to me!: I...

Streaming to the Internet using DVB-S PC Card

That's a shame. I'll have a play about with ProgDVB and see if I can get it to work with the method above..
