All PFs have a certain sexyness and Character Martin ..
Something lacking with Offsets........;)

You are correct VS and similar to what what U said nearly 4 years ago.......'.....I still think PFs are 'sexier'...lol' :D:D:-

Yes Chris he does BUT .......take your place in the queue. :D:D:D

No pushing in either, I should be towards the top now :p

Well above is the order of asking first and they is a few others, One little alteration to do later today i am going to move the dish actuator fixing point further back towards the dish to allow more travel, it will give me a fair bit more movement at the ends of the arc.

I started to mod a 1.8 but ive not finished it, its easier to start from scratch tbh, I will be making another shortly for the 1.8

In actual fact Martin ..
The next few days up to weekend should provide you the perfect opportunity to accurately set the PMs true south ..
Yes ..good ole Sol is what I used when refitting my PM ...and such a rare thing to see the sun ...so why not use it ?

Ah yes ..
tis true ..but standard compasses dont take into account variations from True South and Magnetic South ..
Local metal structures ...and Human input error..
I daresay You can compensate with an app ..on a mobile ...but how accurate are the internal sensors of the fone ..
I personally prefer un-influencable methods such as the sun ...
Assuming it is visible..
Call me old fashioned ...but thats just me ..
:D

If it was good enough for building Pyramids ...and old Greek Mathmaticians ...it's good enough for me ..

plus you actually get to employ practical application ...of something you thought useless when learned in school..

;)

I am not knocking its accuracy Evan it a proven fact but its certainly old school, peeps are better using the sun to check the lnb is focusing as it should ;).

Yes I would still consider replacing Christina MKI with Christina MKII ...
but only if I could locate a precision 2m ...
2.3m would not physically fit in the same allocated space ...
less than 2metre would gain me nothing ...so I have a very specific window..
Single piece spun ally 2 > 2.2m..
..and then theres the transportation problem I'd have..
I do keep looking tho'

It looks like it will be a big fight if a large precision turns up :-lol there are a few 2.2 knocking about how good they are who knows ?

Got the mirrors today. Now I just need to understand the video (or find an English) video.

Then I can give it a go.

Most mobile phone apps use the compass in the phone. And as a result, becomes inaccurate as you move closer to the polar mount/dish.

The only really accurate way, is to use the sun to position the polar mount.

Some times it's the only trusted way of doing it, every time I have tried to set the polar mount with a compass or Mobile phone app, its always out.

I would love to be able to set my mount to 3°w as this is zenith at my location. Just waiting for a feed or some form of life I can use to tweek it in to.

I spend hours/weeks fine tuning my dishes, I wish it was just that easy to use the sun to line my dish up but its not in reality to get the most from my setup I find I need to tweak and tweak again.

Agreed ..tweaking is a must ...but having at least one variable that can be set as a constant does reduce the number of permutations ..
..and if done using an accurate time source and a cast shadow at a specific time of day (solar noon) ...with dish and mount locked in a line along the Southern axis on a pole that is plumb ...
this IS as accurate as it ever gets ...and removes one variable from the equation..
You can rely on the sun ...any other variance can only be introduced as a man made innacuracy...
