What happened to it, it looks a very nice dish?

Just a quick question about your Precision 1.5m dish, could you please explain the reason for removing the paint, is it something to do with straightening the dish or was the paintwork just in poor condition?

It wasn't my dish Dave :(nice dish though and would be nice for Evan, but its findings one,

My main reason, ive seen aluminium corrode in the past mainly were something joins to it, in this case the lnb arms and the rivets holding back plate, I wanted to check the condition, I was painting the dish to blend in anyhow, its only a hour or so work extra stripping it and I will fill any imperfections before painting,

This is a lovely dish and ive fell in love with it, I want to install it with piece of mind it will still be in good shape in another 20yrs time and hope I am still around to enjoy it, reading up a little channel master took over the production for a while.

Precision Antennas seem to have had a few evolutions over the years, firstly the take over by Channel Master, then the management buy out to QP and now to Elite Antennas. Its just my personal opinion but these are the best satellite dishes you can get, nothing comes close.

I was fortunate to visit their factory in Shakespeare's country (actually Anne Hathaway's) sometime in the early 90's. Spinning machines and broomsticks to get the reflectors into shape.

It still has the original tag on it S, I've been trying to find references to the serial numbers but no luck, the chap said he installed it over 10 yrs ago, he was going round the country installing them for data, maybe the 03 is 2003 ?

Ok I have the dish back in good shape, just need to string it then test it with mirror's, a closer inspection of the holes that hold the lnb arms they need a little work. I will weld new aluminium washers in place on low heat to prevent distortion, hopefully get it primed and back on its stand later today ready for the mirrors arriving hopefully tomorrow :), still a bit of paint stripping left to do.

The phone code (0789) predates April 2001 when they added a 1 if that helps...

It wasn't mine pal:(, what I have now are my biggest ever dishes,

Ok all the paint striped apart from the outer rim, just a dent to fill and a scratch and rub down and I will primer her up:). I will remove the paint from the rim while the filler is going off.

All this reshaping and refurbishing looks really impressive! I hope to have a big dish one day. :D

The 1 was added to phone codes in April 1995 (PhONEday). So even older potentially!

Thank you, that's what I said about 7 years ago, it took me 5.5 years to get one then 1.5 years to install it lol, ive always admired peeps with big dishes and I know I would have one at some point,

My admiration has now moved to peeps like feedsat, I still want bigger so I am in the same boat as you at the end of the day;), if you want something that much if your like me you will get it :), I will look forward to your install as and when it happens good luck I hope its soon :).

Absolutely yes ..
;)
This goes for any lnb ..
C/Ku/Ka

A conical feed would work ...inefficiently ...
poor dish illumination..
and lose valuable dbs

Thanks Evan, what about the plate if I just install one C band lnb, do I have to install the plate manually as and when I want to use it, or can I get both pol leaving the plate in please?

Yes you would buddy ..
The only way round this is 2 lnbs close to focus ..or maybe a corotor..

A problem that has plagued me for more years than I care to remember..

If memory serves ..there was a compromise solution in the form of a specially shaped waveguide extension that could be fitted on the end of your lnbf ...but not sure if they are still available ..and were damned expensive ..
Made by an Aussie company ..I think

(worked a bit like a septum feed ...but stepped internally..)
