Yes, for sure, with planners it seems its always best to enquire about options before doing anything. The 13" figure is useful to know even though it may be an "unofficial" figure.

True Moonbase, putting a large dish up is going to attract attention, going down the proper route is the best way to go, once agreed they wont go back on their decision, do something without asking they can bend the rules to suit themselves, good to have them on your side, guaranteed some *rick will report it.

Moving on to electrical work today motor cable, picked 20mtr of four core wire up, the stops are on the outside as mentioned previously, new water proof box for stops connections

John,

If you have the means to collect the 2.2m antenna then its a decent saving to pick it up yourself. Have you made a decision yet, a 2.2m is crying out for a Norsat 8000RI, you should get some nice juicy C Band catches with that kit.

Depending on what car you have it would easy to bring it home on the roof, I brought the 1.8 back from MBs on my Landrover and there was a foot either side to the tips of the door mirrors. Two sections of ladder bolted to a roof rack create a wide flat platform to sit the dish on.

aceb,

Yes, I remember it well. It was a heavy dish with the old design steel bracket on the back. That old 1.8m was built before they adopted the rear 600mm tubular steel ring mount. Also, the polar mount was real heavy duty, quite different from later designs.

I am pleased to see it is still your avatar and has a good home.

Moving on to electrical work today

Another job that needs doing is grounding/lightening protection, not really clued up with this, maybe @jeallen01 can advise ?

The way I see it,

I have two 4ft ground rods and connector = 8ft
IMG_3628.JPG

knock one in to 4ft connect other continue, so one rod 8ft down, connect thick cable to rod (25mm is that big enough ?) then to base, base should be sufficient in my case, base and dish is all one bit of metal,

F connector earth
Capture.PNG
Bolt this to base should be ok as rod is earthed to base ?,

Best way is to have a dissipator (sometimes called diffusers) on another , taller erection.

Are you 'up' to it ?

Er, no. What you are doing is increasing the chance of a strike and damage to the kit indoors by grounding.

Your insurance contents cover may also be affected

It I was unlucky enough to have a strike, most of it would go to earth the way am doing it, admittedly I would still get some current down the lines,

Indoors my intensions is to ground to fuse board ground,

Thanks channel hopper your correct :) connecting the probar f connector to the base isn't a good idea,

So it has ive said but move the probar from the base use inline protectors indoors.

I didn't matey, it got severely knackered along with a Jumbo motor in some really bad gale force winds we had around here about two years ago where i unfortunately was not around to be able to crank it all down to safety. That pic was when i took it down to make a new polor mount etc..... all before the gales. She was a cracking dish.

Also have to think about this little lady, she's been without a summer residence now for nearly two years bless 'er.

You know, John, you can get the Jumbo going again by replacing the innards, since there has been no reinforcing done to anything inside. Just the outer shell.

I will make a Starcast later in the year and see how much it cost in parts and time making it, might be able to sell a few if I can do them cheap enough, its the best H to H ive ever seen nothing to go wrong with them, the used one on dish is still like new no play what's so ever after 20yrs use.

Wasn't the bird concerned when you moved the dish John, are did you just leave it parked there :)

Whilst she was in residence i kept the dish mainly parked at 55°West for feeds and just nudged it to 58° or 47.5° when she was out.
I think we had their company over about three years.
She will be able to take up residence again soon.
