I'm sure it will be fine, I had it leant on a tree, bricks to hold the azimuth with a Sky minidish LNB on it (waiting for the matched feed), managed to get Fox movies on a 7w horizontal without too much messing about. Surprising easy to align a dish of that magnitude. In fact far far easier than trying to get the verticals on my TD110. Its going to stay very close to the ground too, probably half a metre below, and one metre up top.( the pole I meant! LOL)

$ky lnbs can be very good... we recently tested a few on a 2.4 CM on 7w (up here so similar I think) and a quad & an Octo $ky lnb matched or beat an inverto .3 C120 + matched feedhorn.
On an offset it's interesting that vertically it should have reduced the dish size.. but horizontally the F/D ratio is quite wide so it probably got most of the dish.

anyway... C o o l dish Robbo......

It makes a good bird bath too, well it did this morning, as I left it on its back on the grass, and it filled with water.:-rofl2

Tough as old boots as well, as it has a fairly thick support ring around the circumference.

the missus must have been in a good mood to let you have a 1.8 dish lol

that sounds similar to the 3inch pole that I'm using to hold my 1224 motor and dish

any pics yet ?

She hasn't let me, but I have anyway. I have told her that it is just temporary and I'm just having a practice setting up big dishes, I don't think she will put up for it very long, we'll see, I'm sure I'll find a good home for it somewhere.;)

I have a 1224 to go with it, very kindly provided. I have used my laptop power adapter to move it, as I have no V-box at present. That is one mother of a motor!!! Done my back in just lifting it.

I do have one picture yes, I have attached it below, as you can see, its work in progress at the moment.

BTW, that is not me in the picture, LOL, its one of my sons.

yes the 1224 motor is a beast and i so prefer it now over a diseqc one

i didn't think it was that heavy and i had to lift above my head to fit, what are they about 20kg ?

good experience to set one up though with all them bolts you can adjust on them.

Just finished making an adapter between the Channel master plate that it has to the Precision. A couple of 24 inch T&K bolted together (just the the T's) did the trick.

The 1224 is heavy;), I had to take two paracetamols and two Ibuprofeens after lifting above my head, backs stopped hurting now.:-rofl2

Please, does anyone know where I could get a couple of metre length of 3" diameter steel tubing? Its for a 1.8m dish, so it must be strong.

Not had much luck so far. apart from SSStore and theirs is too expensive.

They may be expensive but they are well worth the money.

I got one for my channel master 1.2m dish back in 2000 and it was still in place seven years later when I took it down.

It is not worth buying cheap rubbish that will fall down in strong winds. Don't be such a cheapskate.

Ring them up and try to get an offer. I got mine for around £100 but I had to waterproof the whole mounts(luckly it was in summer at the time and it didn't rain).

You should never used T & K brackets for a satellite dish. Esp not a Channel Master 1.2m dish.

That is what I did with my first channel master dish. I used T & K brackets, modded them so I could attach a 3" pole to them only to have loose wall plugs a month later because of the winds. That is right, the whole dish mount was coming away from the wall. I had to get a proffesial installer to fix the problem and that cost me an extra £90. So much for trying to save money, in the end it ended up costing me more.

Channel Master dishes are too heavy for brackets that are designed for a TV aerial.

The issue here, it seems, is not so much the brackets themselves but the means of attachment to the wall.

What sort of fasteners did you use?

What material is the wall constructed of?

Did you avoid Mortar courses?

Can't remember it was back in May 1997(or was it 96?).

I think it was those huge bolts but when you turn them they grip the brick or something.

If you look at my outside wall you can still see the holes of all the dishes I had up over the last 17 years or so.

You may get away with T & K brackets if you are installing a small lightweight dish but not a channel master.

Infact Satellite Superstore recommend you use their heavy duty mounts(No, I don't work for them).

Robbo's using the Ts as an adaptor mod on the motor .. to the dish.....

but..

...as far as T & Ks go... we are having real problems getting T & K brackets that I believe are actually up to the job, most are actually for aerials and are getting thinner with less welds and lateral bracing is only on 36" now. We had a job lot of older brackets that were far better and we've made brackets (very expensive on short runs usually) but we are still looking for a supplier .. the best we've come up with (price wise) is a mod on one manufacturers brackets.

Yes, I'm not mounting the dish on T&Ks, just using them as a convenient source of galvanised angle iron. Basically I need a big T to bolt to three threaded holes that are on a ring on the back of the dish. The top of the T is not long enough, so I have chopped the upright off another T and bolted it to top of the T to make it longer.

Bonus is that I have two spare Ks that I can use if needed, or use them as is for a small dish install.

I aint paying £70 + del, for a bit of metal pole, which I doubt is any better than I got locally.

Yes the big brackets they do are strong, but I have seen one first hand and there is absolutely no leeway when fitting to get the pole pumb. I'd rather use extra T&Ks than one of those monstrocities.

Yep, I agree though Pedro, Lateral stability is a problem, especially on the 24 inchers.

I would weld an extra piece in too, but I have two probs:
I have no welder
I don't know how to weld.:-rofl2

I've considered putting a couple of short guy wires slightly above both brackets on occasions, particularly with the longer ones, it would certainly restrict any lateral movement, but you'd have to be careful when tightening, so as not to affect the plumbness of the mast.

Actually, a nut and bolt job, with a spare bit of angle iron, should do the job, maybe I'll try that next time on a longer mast.
