Sadly ..not a chance at this time of year AS ..
Neil can only get to 45 East because of the TT ..and that's at reduced signal level.

Ok ..so perhaps I am mad afterall..
Just spotted another one of these SL3s for less than £20 including delivery ..so snapped it up.
The reason..
I have seen pictures of the internals and believe it may be possible to isolate one of the Ka lnbs by physically removing it ..and mounting in such a way that it is at the focus..
I am also curious about making the lnb linear ..and the only way to even have a chance is to deconstruct one.
I think I have a good understanding of these units now and how they function ...so why not ..
Nothing to lose really ..
One complete to experiment with ..
..and one to take apart and examine.
Told you I was barking...
lol

Just a bit of confirmation that I did indeed find Hylas 1 last night ..
Actually managed to lock one of the transponders at 33.5 West..
SR 4500 8psk FEC 8/9 provider AOL .
What else could it be ??
So the direcTV lnb ..will cover a slightly greater range than the Saorsat inverto ..
Currently set to Ka High band ...and gets the broadband transponders plus the blank carrier at Soarsats frequency ..plus some of the Hylas transponders ..
I can't lock these a) because the transponders at 9E are possibly linear ?..and b) although Saorsat and the blank carrier are circular ..they are too weak .
Anyway ..it's something I guess..

Ignore the frequency being displayed ..it means nada ..but maybe I can use the Hylas transponders ..which ARE listed at Flysat ..to equate the scanned frequencies to actual frequencies.
LO on the SL3 lnb being pretty much an unknown quantity.

...Now I have no idea what this is ?
All I know is that is present when the SUP-2400 upconvertor is enabled ..and not when it is disabled ..thus it MUST be from Ka low band.
Dish is pointing approximately 19.4 East...
and the peak small though it is is present on both 13v and 18v scans ...this means it is Linear not circular..
but must be sufficiently powerful that it can be resolved by a circular polarised LNB even though linear transmission.
So in theory it must be at laest 3db stronger than the peak indicates.
Oh ..for a linear lnb on the SL3..
still ..I guess you could call it progress.

@ Llew ..
Crazycat just replied to me on Ricks ..
my question was ..
Is it possible to send raw diseqc commands from within crazyscan ?
Apparently this feature was added at version version 1.0.1.87
..and I'm still using 1.0.1.77
Where can I download the version I need ..
More to the point what is the latest release version ?
How far am I out of date I wonder.
Took a look at sourceforge...but the download there doesn't specify the version.
Where is the best place to grab the latest version ?

cheers buddy

Isn't 87 the one Crazycat is pointing to in his reply to you? (The arrow -- >)

His blog goes up to 1.0.1.86, the last official version - http://sourceforge.net/p/crazyscan/blog/

Still on 77 myself, keeping it simple for now. Does what I want ATM.

Doh! ..now I just feel stoopid ...
I haven't installed and checked it yet ..tomorrow will do ..but I didn't realise the arrow was an actual active link..
I wonder if Crazycat has added the feature as a result of my request/question..since the official version ie 86 is only one version prior.

If so then I'd like to say thankyou on here too..

Enosat over at Ricks has kindly upload a bit more info regarding the SL DirecTV lnbs ..so I figured I'd share them on here too..
The more you know ..the easier it gets ..
Hopefully

VS, check Enosat's reply over at Rick's to your problem with the QT error. You need updated QTLibs from Crazyscan 86 as pointed to by Eno (I had the same error).

Just copy to and replace all the libs to your Crazyscan folder.

Yep ..just read his post and included the new needed lib files ..
Now working and just about to try the raw diseqc control console.
Sadly not much to look at currently around 19.2E.
Still ..I appreciate Crazycat adding this feature.

cheers

Proof if needed that Crazycats modded diseqc console does indeed work ..
A scan showing a peak found at 19.2E ....
with sup-2400 on ..ie upconvertor running..
and the same scan with the upconvertor off ..
Peak vanishes..
Nice..

...Ok here's interesting ..
The large peak shown ealier at 19.2 ..
Now I can switch on the upconvertor ...within Crazyscan ..I can examine the peaks more closely ..
Ok ..so I can't get a clean lock ...but that's not surprising ..
Afterall ..I'm looking at Linear transmission with a Circular LNB..
But this peak certainly is curious to look at constellation wise.
I call it the comet peak..
Looks like a fireball doesn't it.
I'm guessing its actually just the top right quandrant modulated of a QSPK signal ..
Either the other 3 are unmodulated or so weak they are lost in the background noise (maybe attributable to the polarity mismatch)

Pretty tho' ..innit

Found this 'Test Carrier' classic unmodulated - smoke ring- formation.
Approx 25 - 26 East RHCP ...
At first I thought this is a test carrier for which the new range of circular invertos IDLW-SINLRA20-D2045-OPP
were intended over the middle East ?
But not in the right range I think.
This is definately in the Low Ka range ..
so ..any Ideas ??
I'd heard a rumour that Astra at 28 East carried at least 1 Ka transponder ?? ..but would this be circular ? I doubt it ?

Just done a bit of click counting ..as the SL3 isn't strictly at the focus ...and it is within 25 clicks of Astra @28.2
..which is set in the Gbox positioner

Well there was that press release last year when Astra 2F was switched on that it was now serving France for KA band Internet but didn't go into details. Should be an easy catch in the UK too.

What's the Low KA LO range you're using with your SL3 for that scan VS? Surely it should be possible to find that peak by putting your SL3 LO in Crazyscan? Or am I losing the plot here?

Just thought it might be useful to find the exact KA frequency to make it easier when searching online for possible KA transmission frequencies around the arc area you're trying.

It might well be a good idea to try and work out the frequency Llew ..though I doubt this will be easy or accurate ..
First I need the LO freq of the lnb ..and in the correct mode ..
Then the upconversion needs to be accounted for ...

It would be easier If I could find at least one transponder on any sat in the arc that was positively known and documented in Ka low ..and that was recognised ..
ie a point of reference ..
Not been lucky with this so far ..but I'm hoping to sort out some sort of scale eventually.
