Many people are installing really big dishes. So far Astra 2D - 3,60 meters in Sofia and North-Western Bulgaria with invacom quad LNB. Astra 1N is still a big question

the odds seem to be better here in central Germany at first glance, looking at the projected new UK spot beam, but still, my 80cm dish is just barely enough now to have decent reception from clear skies to light rain... as soon as it starts coming down a bit stronger than that, the signal breaks up completely. So there really isn't much wiggle room in terms of bad weather reserve here... unless you are prepared to install a dish the size of a children's paddling pool.

So in reality, it probably won't make much of a difference if you're in Spain or Germany.

Dont forget the possibility of frequency reuse -I think this may still be in the mix.....especially for the eastern mediterranean. As to whether there would be frequency reuse over say Germany and France, I dont know, but it could happen....Sorry for a negative perspective but it doesnt matter how big the dish in this scenario....

You're right! Why don't they move it already to 19.2:D

Nope, they are just now considering to move it to 23,5 E because the main pay tv provider of Hahamudistan (which is situated right between Iran and Persia as everyone knows) is looking for some satellite space for their developing subscription packages.

I know... cheeky b******s.

Well in that case all you really can do is get a Slingbox.

Or maybe Sky or BT or Virgin will consider opening up their broadband TV to viewers outside Britain. After all, there is considerable money to be made, you already have many people using - or trying to use - their Sky subscription satellite receiver abroad against Sky's terms and conditions (not spilling the beans, Sky are well aware of this), and many more watching Freesat.

When I went to my folks place in Spain last month which is about 30mins south from alicante airport I was surprised at the recent explosion of big dishes over there from last year, most used to get there tv via local companies retransmitting English tv, but many have closed so people are going down the big dish route, most are around 2.5m big but I think many people simply won't have the room to install larger ones, plus many expats around there complain if signal loss at various times of the day which could be the bleed over from the Badar satellites at 26e a bigger dish won't sort this, could just make matters worse.. Troubling times in paradise ahead..

Inverto Black Ultra LNB will way outshine the Invacom.

if there is no signal to pick up thanks to a tight UK spotbeam, it won't matter.

Does that mean anything at this stage for fringe users especially the fringe fringe fringe users:D

Am I being wildly optimistic that some of this could be good for fringe users or is it a lose-lose situation whatever happens?

This has been a fascinating thread. When are e, f and g going up. Im actually looking forward to it!:D

I live in Murcia about 1 hour drive from Alicante..I'm lucky as i seem to live in a better reception area than a few miles up the road. I have a 1.2 dish which receives reasonable reception..just waiting to see what 1N does though

No change in signal qualities here in Helsinki, so I don't think anything has changed yet.

That's 2 days old and agrees with ses 2 day old press release about going into service:

_http://www.ses.com/4233325/news/2011/8301772

Although the press release doesn't say what frequencies are in use.

I find it hard to believe that the footprint will be identical to 2D so can any Expats confirm if any channels have got better or worse in the last two days?

No need to look if thats the case - just listen for the squeals of rage from the expat community!

If 1N is in service why no comments from expats?

You say no change, have you checked if the signal quality has gone up?

If that's ideed the case, there's little difference in 1N's spot beam power for the TP's in question here in the UK. A check by our fringe European members will be interesting.

Charts - Yellow before the supposed changeover, White, a scan after supposed changeover.
