Finally some more things happening on 1N. The two testcards on 11.052H have lit up properly

Reported as

20735: ITV1 +1 Tyne Tees
20745: ITV1 +1 Westcountry

Both of these will be new regional timeshifts. (At the moment here in Border/TyneTees land we get ITV1 +1 Granada!)

There's a new TP testing at 11067 V DVB-S2 with a test card labelled as 'TEST'. It's switching between 22000 2/3 8PSK and 23000 8/9 QPSK. At the time of writing it is 22000 2/3 8PSK.

Edit - now using 22500 2/3 8PSK

If it is true that Atra 2D is being switched off and all frequencies shifted to 1N, then the BBC may consider it less risky to do a normal "dual illumination" migration than an instant TP shift.

Is it true? If so, what is the latest date please??
Thanks,
Carole

I havent seen any definite confirmation from SES about a 2D switchoff yet Carole - although "2012" is being quoted on a few forums. As soon as there is any definite info we will of course post it in the fringe section.

I was replying to the Spain post. Here 1N is nowhere near as strong as 2A/B.

I'm hoping to post in your Eastern European Reports thread later this week with some detailed reports, but from what I'm reading here in Hungary, 1N is far stronger than 2D west of the Danube

Rough guide about 150cm dish Budapest area and south, where 2D was around 180cm, but this is info I get through translation.

Regards
Formula

hello,
it is strong here in naples as well.
tv 5 and itv went to 1n and we are receiving it here .i have tested a 1 meter dish and it is comming in no problem.
if it rains its the first to go.a 1.20 meter is better here and 2 meter is ideal.
astra 2 d we tested it with a 4 meter dish years ago and was never able to pick it up at all.
cypress is going to loose it all where as they can not pick up 1n at all with a 4 meter dish.

It may be a freek of nature, but I did an install yesterday witgh a 1m Fracarro. Using the Twin UX series Fracarro LNB it recieved CH4HD. Previously only a 1.25 of higher picked it up.
Another today with the same brand of 1m dish, everything but CH4HD, but not with the UX, but regular Fracarro. Seems it is possible but only just with a 1m and with the right combination of dish and LNB. With my 1.25 Echstar fiberglass (Thanks Ralph) i get everything from 1N rain or shine (Torrential negated)
So I think 1N is stronger than 2 months back.

Is it only me or is almost nothing happening in regards to 1N, does anyone have any idea when/if BBC will move their transponders 10773.00H to IN (I would lik it very mouch as the corrent tp is weak and fades out certain hours)?

Only SES know what their timetable is for shifting transponders around - and they arent saying.

Plenty has happened with 1N since it started. We were never going to get loads of new content on 1N - its main use at 28E is to provide some badly needed backup to the old birds, a little more narrow beam capacity, and allow SES to turn down the electrical generation capacity required on 2A 2B & 2D by swapping a few transponders over to 1N

Eutelsat seems to lay back. No backup for the 'old' EB1 at all or would Eutelsat ask/beg SES for backup if the EB1 is going berserk?

i would hope ses would use it asa bargining tool to get some of the frequencies back so we can enjoy more capicty and better signal strengths on those frequnecies

Eutelsat fought through the courts for years to get their frequencies - theres no way they will give any up.

How do you think ses would make more capacity if they had them?

And properly installed UK dish shouldnt have any issues at all getting EB1 frequencies at good signal strength - Ive got a 60cm dish on Astra/Eutelsat at 28E and we dont have any problems at all unless its a monsoon like downpour outside or its snowing heavily & the lnb is covered up/iced over!

Im sure SES would happily rent Eutelsat some frequencies if so required after a major breakdown :D

I wonder how much Eutelsat has to pay for it ;)

Interesting - the 28.5E slot argument has blown up again - looks like Deutsche Telekom want it back!

This is a report from last May & the relevant info is in the bottom 3 or 4 paras

DT operated their Kopernikus birds at 28.5E many years ago.
