Interesting that SES obviously want to make maximum use of 1N even if all TP's won't be used for DTH services in the interim period (by using it for feeds too).

It's a good observation!I thought also about it today when I saw two feeds are functional. That's why there are two European spots and only one for UK!

I guess up until now SES haven't really had the spare spectrum capacity to do much in the way of SNG/Ad-Hoc occasional feeds from 28.2E as all their alloted spectrum has been in use. Opening up of the 'C' spectrum will allow them to utilise feed capacity in the short term, longer term I can see all the transponder allocations filling up so won't be an option but for now and I guess whilst 1N is at 28.2E they can make full use of this.

Out of sixteen available frequencies 1N can use we've currently got, in permanent DTH use, three of them and two of these currently have services on. We can expect 11053H to have a transport stream fed to it at some point with probably the ITV TP from 12402V and another illuminated TP carrying ITV1HD services but after that is anyones guess? I would suspect that whatever deal ITV have in place with Sky for uplinking to 10936V is only short term and that longer term one of ITV's new contracted TP's will take these services. I quite like the Sky uplinked 2D HD ITV1HD's as they are full 1920x1080i and do look very good!

Besides the reasons given by you,in fact Astra 1N is provisional, as we all know, on this position. And this for four reasons, two technical, one commercial and one strategic: 1.once he is a backup satellite, and 2.on the other hand it saved energy using for feeds. In two years Astra 1N 3 should be operating at full capacity when it will be moved to 19.2 position.
3.From the commercially point of view,as the two-year as sit on this position, amortized costs in good part.
4.And there is another very important reason:Astra fleet is hardly used for the transmission of feeds, most are provided by others satellite operators:Eutelsat,Intelsat, etc.Perhaps it will attract many TV operators, that customers will migrate to the Astra. As we have seen today with Arqiva and Globecast,Eutelsat's old customers.

Yep, good points there. It would be interesting to know if SES are undercutting Eutelsat for occasional use/feed costs as generally Eutelsat are considered a cheaper operator than SES (but offer less in the way of backup at 28.2E).

Is 11053H still transmitting? I've just done a TP scan and can't seem to get lock?

Edit: Got it now! Still has no services on there though yet.

Yep, looks like it. We'll have to wait next for some video testing but reckon this might be delayed until Sky EPG's novated and 12422H is turned off.

I think it's a certainty, the better bet is WHEN?

And will all the other channels turn of encryption at the same time?

I guess they'll have the Sky EPG novated by then and if 12442H is turned off could be around this time the services all join Freesat? Maybe they'll run some timeshifted video testing with it off the EPG (after EPG novation) but then put some sort of caption up prior to launch. Didn't ITV do this when they launched their +1 in Jan or did it go live straight away?

Have you tried this:-

Freq, 11127V sr 22000 fec 2/3 DVB-S2 8PSK transmitting Channel 4HD clear ( not encrypted ).

Satbeam website says KU-band UK Spot beam for this channel.

Good luck

Regards

The Sky epg must be sorted. As far as I understand from one of the poster over on the DS forum who is involved in a tv channel, Sky wont even talk to companies about carriage unless all the paperwork is in order
